The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, not only a talented musician, but also a true titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library has received multiple Library of Congress Literacy Awards and, in 2018, Dolly visited us to donate the program’s 100 millionth book to our collection. She even hosted story time. 🦋❤️

"Guemes Island Ferry Service Alert: 7/24/2026 3:30 PM *UPDATE*


3:30 PM Update:

Friday (remainder of today) - The Guemes Island Ferry will operate its normal sailing schedule for the remainder of today, Friday, July 24. The last sailing today will depart Anacortes at 11:00 PM with the Guemes Island departure approximately eight minutes later.

Saturday - Due to a crewing shortage, we will proactively cancel the 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM sailings Saturday evening. The final departure on Saturday July 25 will be at 9:15 PM from Anacortes, with the Guemes Island departure approximately eight minutes later. We understand that cancellations are inconvenient, but these proactive schedule changes will help us better support peak weekend travel demand on Sunday.

A generous islander donated this sweet antique sugar bowl (see what we did there?) to our Mini Shipwreck sale. Since we’re a library we had to do some research- this little bowl has a great story!
Made in Limoges, France circa 1894–1900, by Delinieres & Co., commissioned specifically for early American luxury retailer Bailey, Banks & Biddle of Philadelphia.
Hand-painted roses with gold banding and a twisted finial on top. 125-year-old craftsmanship.
Condition: well-loved. Gold shows wear from a century of use. No chips, no cracks.
Message to make us an offer before the sale, if it isn’t sold before sale day you will find it amongst other great treasures.

Thanks to generous islanders we have collected lots of goodies for our Mini Shipwreck Sale! We have plenty of kitchen items and household decor, but we are still looking for quality electronics, records, tools and gardening items.

About This Service:
Library technology is maintained by volunteers— not a paid IT department.

Response Times:
Expect a response within a few days, not hours. There is no on-call coverage for evenings, weekends, or holidays. Please do not send repeated messages to speed things up — it doesn’t help and adds to the workload.

How to Report an Issue:
Please include:
• What you were trying to do
• What happened instead
• When it started


Equipment
Do not change settings, install software, or add devices to library computers. If something seems wrong, report it — don’t try to fix it yourself. Unauthorized changes create problems that take significant time to repair.

Guemes Island Library July 4th Mini Shipwreck sale update!
Ferry fees and aging knees have led us to scale down in size but scale up in quality for this year’s sale. We want to keep the tradition alive with our island style, and we’re already off to a great start with lots of quality items coming in!

The last few years we’ve hauled truckloads of items off island after the sale – this year we want to streamline the process, so we’re being a little more selective about what we take. Here’s what we’re especially hoping for:

Records & DVDs

Quality kitchen items

Art and art supplies

Cameras & electronics

Musical instruments & accessories

Audio equipment

Board games & computer games

Binoculars, field guides, nature books

Garden hand tools

Pet supplies

Fishing, boating & camping gear

Please make sure donations are clean and in good working condition, we’re a tiny all-volunteer operation and don’t have capacity to clean or repair items.

No furniture, gas-powered tools, or clothing please!

Thanks to the generosity of Slow Loris we’re thrilled to debut our brand-new t-shirt "Island Rides" which will be available at our summer kickoff sale on Saturday, May 23rd from 10am–3pm at the Library & in front of the Spirit of Guemes.

Along with the new shirt, we’ll have books and Guemes gear for sale.

Bonita will be on hand with her annual plant sale and the Historical Society will have the Guemes Island cookbook 'Recipes Through the Years' as well as great gift items and historic editions of Guemes publications.
