Diane Curtis, Director of Pre-Law Advising and Senior Director of Legal Studies at UMass Amherst, has been honored with the 2025 Dean Gerald Lee Wilson Award for Excellence in Pre-Law Advising from PLANC, the Pre-Law Advisors National Council. PLANC awards this recognition to "an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the pre-law advising community at the national or regional level." Well-deserved congratulations, Diane! ⚖️ 🏆

We're thrilled to announce that, beginning in Fall 2022, the School of Public Policy at UMass Amherst will offer an undergraduate degree in Public Policy! Fun fact: AVP played a central role in passing an LGBTQ-inclusive Violence Against Women Act, ensuring explicit protections of LGBTQ people by the federal govenement for the first time in history. As part of our 40th Anniversary 40 Change Maker Profiles, we are spotlighting Sharon Stapel, who served AVP for seven years as Executive Director, launched AVP’s free legal services in 2013, and helped lead the federal government to ensure critical protections of LGBTQ communities.
