Pioneer Valley Trumpet Guild The PVTG is run by members of the UMass Trumpet studio to connect with the community through music!

As a Registered Student Organization, we strive to foster music education through trumpet performance, to provide a welcoming environment which encourages musical growth and development, and to secure financial, logistical, and promotional support from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This guild includes all current members of the UMass Amherst trumpet studio, working towards a common musical goal through outreach, service, performance, and financial support.

Introducing the 2026-2027 UMass Amherst Trumpet Studio!!

On Tuesday, we had our first studio class of the fall semester! Tom led us in a group composition exercise where everyone had the opportunity to contribute a small melody, and by the end, we had an awesome piece! What a great way to build community and kick off the year!

Exciting news!!! 🎺🎺

The UMass Trumpet Studio has merch!! Jump on over to our new merch store (link in our bio and at the bottom of this post) and check out all the cool products!

A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the studio and be used to help cover the cost of studio events, NTC and ITG submissions, and more!

Congratulations to current studio members, Alex Moore and Emma Robeau, and alum, Matt Sypek, on their performance with the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra this afternoon in the PVSO’s Summer Pops Concert! Now that the semester and ITG are over we want to celebrate our studio seniors!

First we have Chip who earned his masters degree in Trumpet Performance as well as a certificate in Jazz Performance.

Emma is graduating with a degree in Music Education and is moving to Virginia where she has accepted a position teaching high school orchestra and guitar!

Next up is Virgil who is graduating with his degree in Music Education focusing on both classical and jazz. Virgil will be continuing his studies at Purchase College studying Studio Composition!

Ilkim is graduating with a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Education and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology!

Finally, Christine is graduating with a degree in Natural Resource Conservation with a Music Performance Minor! She will be working with Massachusetts DCR and will be continuing her education at UMass for her masters degree in Geography!

While we are sad to see them go, we will miss all of these musicians and are excited to see where the future takes them!

ITG 2026!! We had so much fun in Rochester, New York last week at the Eastman School of Music for the 50th Anniversary Conference! We got to attend amazing masterclasses, warm-up sessions, clinics, and workshops, check out all of the exhibits, and watch incredible concerts! Four of our studio members were also recognized at the Scholarship Breakfast at the end of the week for being awarded Conference Scholarships! In addition, Dr. Felix performed as a part of an Eastman alumni ensemble to honor Dr. James Thompson before his Warm-Up Class! Here is a recap from our trip - we can’t wait for next year’s conference in Kentucky!

For our final studio class of the semester, we enjoyed a wonderful lecture from on how we should be practicing based on brain research!

Over the course of the spring semester, studio members read Gebrian’s book, Learn Faster, Perform Better. Having Gebrian come in to talk to us was really a full circle moment!!
