MISSING PERSON NOTICE:

The National Park Service is searching for Neil Gehring, 26, who left the Madison Falls Trailhead in Olympic National Park on August 31. According to his backcountry permit, Neil intended to make a cross-country traverse from Boulder Lake to Appleton Pass, returning to the Madison Falls Trailhead on September 1. He was reported overdue at 6:30 a.m. on September 2. Search efforts began immediately after notification. Kristina Bezanson, Senior Lecturer in Arboriculture, is taking on The Tour des Trees this September! It is a multiday, supported bike tour with riders spending up to five days riding in South and North Carolina, engaging with communities and raising funds for TREE Fund.

Riders will raise funds for each day they ride.

In addition to riding bikes and having fun, riders will also be ambassadors for TREE Fund and for tree science; stopping at various spots along the way and spreading the word about the importance of trees and tree care.

Many of our NRC students have received Tree Fund Scholarships, and our professors and researchers have also received grants to fund research at UMass. The ride is the Tree Fund’s biggest fundraiser.
