We have a model for education that is unique to our school, and an atmosphere for each student to reach new academic heights. Joseph Parish School in Amherst is a community where students feel welcomed, embraced, challenged and loved. We are a private school where morals, strong family values, mutual respect, and ethics are celebrated and encouraged. As a faith based school our students are natura

lly called to serve not just God, but the community and each other. Our students easily gain, grow and develop their confidence in themselves through our caring and supportive educational environment. Our educators are over qualified for their positions. They are not just amazing and gifted teachers, but they have not lost that love and passion of teaching to the individual student. On a daily basis, they strive to go above and beyond both in the classroom and outside of the classroom. Every child is unique and different, and they all learn differently. As a parish school we are blessed to have teachers that teach to the individual versus the masses. While the academic curriculum is quite rigorous - the students are given a plentitude of support to reach their personal academic goals. This is an achievement unattainable without the supportive staff behind each student. In addition to our core curriculum, our school also offers advanced courses in language arts and math. Spanish is taught as a foreign language in all grades. Our students enjoy an enriched musical experience through our choir and instrumental band program. Private instruction is also available for voice and instrumental music. Those in classroom achievements are supported by our many extra-curricular activities after school such as K-Kids, robotics club, drama club, ski club, art club among many others! For those students seeking the extra assistance in their studies and homework - we offer homework lab several days a week after school. Our teachers take their passion for teaching out of the classroom as they once again go above and beyond to be advisors for the after school clubs. Our campus includes a chapel, science lab, art room, two state of the art computer labs, interactive white boards in every classroom, and a 7,000 volume library with an accelerated reader program. We also offer a before school and after school care program along with a summer care program. In addition to an education within the Amherst community that is second to none we offer an extensive athletic program. Our students enjoy participating in CYO sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading and track. You will find coaches and staff that focus on skill-building and athletic preparation that creates athletes that easily take their teams to a winning season in any high school they later choose. The roster of talented high school varsity athletes that came out of St. Joseph Parish School’s eight grade class is long and impressive. Bussing from most local schools is available, and our student body is full and diverse with students from Amherst, Lorain, Oberlin, Wellington, Firelands, among many of our local townships such as Carlisle Township, New Russia Township, and Brownhelm Township just to name a few. There are numerous advantages for choosing a private school education for your child. One that must be mentioned, however, is that small private schools can easily stay ahead of the technology curve. Every year we have many new, fun and exciting changes that are brought into our school that allow us to maintain an edge over other schools in Lorain County. We are thrilled to announce that for the 2017/2018 school year we are implementing one to one technology. Every student will have their computer or tablet. If you are seeking a faith based private school in Lorain County that will challenge your child both academically and spiritually then why not make an appointment to see what St. Joseph Parish School in Amherst is all about? If an enriched school that offers both an emphasis on the arts and athletics sounds like it might be a good fit then this is the perfect time to take a tour of our campus! If you are seeking a school that will not just support your child’s dreams, but grow and encourage them to become tomorrow’s leaders than you are going to find that St. Joseph Parish School in Amherst is the perfect fit.

Bishop Ed Malesic has issued a statement regarding the expected winter storm this weekend:

In view of the snow storm forecast for this weekend various areas in our diocese will be affected differently depending on the timing of this event. Let me remind you that no one is obligated to attend Mass when it is too dangerous to do so. In such cases the Sunday Mass obligation is lifted automatically. Those who are unable to attend Mass safely should find another way to honor the sabbath, perhaps praying a Rosary, meditating on the Sunday readings, or praying the Liturgy of the Hours. Also, be mindful that some of our priests who live at a distance from a Church, may not be able to safely travel there for the celebration of Holy Mass. If possible, please consult any posted changes to the Mass schedule for this Sunday.

Today, we pause to reflect on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., calling to mind his legacy of compassion, social justice, and service. Most especially, we remember the manner in which Dr. King lived - as a ✝ Christian - recognizing each person's inherent dignity as a child of God. May we seek to be Christ's hands and feet in our world, embodying the words of Dr. King, for "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."
