Trunk or Treat at AES!

Join us for a spooktacular evening of fun at Amherst Elementary School!

Our AES PTO is hosting Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 23rd, from 5:30–7:00 PM!

Bring your little ghosts and goblins for an evening of treats, fun, and Panther community spirit!

Want to help make this event extra special? Families and community members are welcome to donate candy or join in the fun by decorating a trunk and handing out treats! Every contribution helps make this a memorable evening for our Panthers.

We hope to see our AES families there!

Farm to School Month at AES!

Our Panthers traded their usual school-day style for boots, overalls, flannels, and farmer hats as we celebrated Dress Like a Farmer Day!
The fun was part of our celebration of Farm to School Month, a time to recognize the important connections between farms, food, schools, and our communities.

From the food that makes its way to our cafeteria to the agriculture all around us, today gave us another opportunity to help our students think about where their food comes from and the people who help grow and produce it.

A big thank you to all of our Panthers who joined in the fun and helped us celebrate! We loved seeing AES turn into a school full of farmers for the day!

Please join us for our BINGO for Books Literacy Night, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 5:00-6:00. We will have BINGO set up for students and families in the cafeteria, and winners will receive books of their choice. Books have been thoughtfully selected, with all of our young readers’ interests in mind. We will also be providing families with approaches they can use to support their students with reading and literacy at home, such as vocabulary and comprehension strategies. Literacy is important. Join us for this fun event, to help foster our students’ love of reading, and support literacy at home.

Amherst Elementary School will be hosting our Annual Title I Meeting on October 15th from 4:30–5:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria. During the meeting, we will discuss Amherst Elementary’s participation in Title I, how Title I funds and resources support our students, our schoolwide program and goals, curriculum and academic assessments, student achievement and areas of need, parent and family engagement opportunities, and parents’ rights to be involved in the Title I program and their child’s education. We will also provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions, share feedback, and learn more about how we can work together to support student success. We look forward to seeing you there!

This week, our AES Staff Spotlight is shining on Mrs. Overstreet, one of our Pre-K Instructional Assistants!

Why Mrs. Overstreet helps AES ROAR:
Mrs. Overstreet brings a caring, hardworking spirit to our Pre-K classroom each day. Whether she is helping students learn, cleaning up a mess, comforting a little Panther, or juggling several things at once, she is always ready to jump in wherever she is needed. Her ability to multitask and care for our youngest Panthers makes her an important part of the AES family. Even more special, Mrs. Overstreet was once a Panther herself—attending Amherst Elementary from Kindergarten through 5th grade! Her dedication to our little learners and her Panther Pride are just a few of the many reasons Mrs. Overstreet helps AES ROAR!

📵 Phone Service Interruption
ACPS has been notified by our phone service provider that they are currently investigating a trunk issue that is impacting incoming phone calls. It has been reported that callers are getting the 'call cannot be completed as dialed' recordings. There is a ticket open for the outage and we are awaiting updates from the provider.

Please join us for our first Title I Parent Advisory Committee Meeting, on Wednesday, October 7, at 4:15pm. We will meet in room 109A and discuss the following information: The best time and method for committee meetings, review of parent involvement policy and signatures, review last year's program evaluation and parent survey data, review Title I Program goals, discuss suggestions related to our school's CSSP (Comprehensive School Support Plan) goals and action steps, and discuss school wide literacy events and parent workshops for the fall semester. We value your support and feedback, and we would love to have you join us if you are able.

Why Mrs. Dawson helps AES ROAR:

Mrs. Dawson is a leader at AES and someone others know they can count on. Staff members often turn to her for advice, ideas, or a helping hand, and she is always willing to share her experience and support those around her. In the classroom, she encourages her students to think for themselves, work through challenges, and, as she often reminds them, “Be a problem solver!” Her dedication to her students and willingness to be there for others are just a few of the many reasons Mrs. Dawson helps AES ROAR!

Today we’re celebrating Mrs. Rachel, Mr. Thompson, and Ms. Farley and thanking them for everything they do for AES each day. Our students helped us put together a special message to show just how much we appreciate them!

From our classrooms and hallways to all the work that happens behind the scenes, thank you for helping keep AES shining!
