Our Tigers keep giving, all the way to the very last day ! Our Connect Life Club was at it again today with with a blood drive. Our team met their goal and earned a $500 scholarship for our school.

ConnectLife’s blood center has become an integral part of WNY’s medical community, providing the best blood products possible when area hospitals are in need. ConnectLife is able to react and quickly and efficiently provide the blood needed to save someone’s life. ConnectLife now supplies over 75% of the blood needed across WNY.

They are the sole supplier of blood products for Kaleida Health, ECMC, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Brooks Memorial Hospital, Bradford Regional Medical Center, Olean General Hospital and Wyoming County Community Health System. As a community blood bank, we are also responsible to answer the call for blood when other hospitals are in need, and we continue to supply Catholic Health and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as needed.

Professional work goes beyond the classroom for teachers at ACHS! This past weekend our ceramics teacher, Mr. Hibbard, participated in firing a large, wood-fueled anagama kiln with the Scott Creek Collaborative. This unique kiln is fired over multiple days with participants taking shifts around the clock to stoke the fire. Currently, the participating artists are waiting for it to cool down to see how their work turned out.

A wood-fueled anagama kiln is a traditional, single-chamber tunnel kiln built on a sloping incline. Originating in ancient Asia, it is stoked with firewood to reach temperatures over 2300°F. As wood burns, fly ash is carried through the chamber, creating unique, organic natural glazes on the pottery
