The Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation and the Institute for Diversity Sciences are pleased to announce their first joint Seed Grant to help support multidisciplinary research to promote social justice. The project, titled "Black Maternal Mobility in Western Massachusetts: The experience of transportation among Black Pregnant Women," is a collaboration between Dr. Lucinda Canty, PhD, CNM, FACNM and Dr. Favorite Iradukunda, PhD, MSN, RN from the Elaine Marieb College of Nursing, Dr. Shannon Roberts from the College of Engineering, and Dr. Lindiwe Sibeko from the School of Health and Public Sciences.

The American Nurses Association event “The Art of Questioning” took place in 2015, but its message still resonates today among nurses. Many view it as a transformative event that shifted their focus to promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and research. In 2023, the ANA is redesigning the original campaign with an innovative twist: The new Art of Questioning and Innovation Campaign includes clinical engineering teams. The ANA currently works with the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation and realizes technology’s major impact on healthcare and nurses. Check out the inspiring article on nurse-engineer partnership that has resulted in the creation of a medical device designed to improve caregiver workflow. Lindsey Roddy, a critical nurse, and Kyle Jansson,and engineer, collaborated on SecureMove-TLC, preventing potential dislodgment. Their interdisciplinary partnerships serve as a great example of how teamwork and collaboration can lead to innovative product development in healthcare.
