Today is the day and they’re all baaack!! Happy smiling faces, glad to see each other!”
The morning started off with a lovely, light breakfast by our Chartwells’ cafeteria crew—thank you Bethany Brown, et al.
Staff then made their way to the auditorium where the program was opened by Dr. Stephen Zadravec, our new Superintendent. He introduced students who led the staff in the “Pledge of Allegiance” and they a wonderful version of the “Star Spangled Banner!”
Mayor Gove spoke next, wishing everyone a wonderful year and leading the gathering in TEAM cheer! Next the Fire Chief, Police Chief, Deputy Chief all said a few words promising to be in our schools frequently this year! Then came the School Resource Officers Sean Ward and Troy Burrell! Kids love them!
Then was the AEFI Board, Bill Messner and Patty Hoyt who announced the winner of the Stephen J, Ge**er “Stroke of Genius Award” which is given to a staff member who has made a difference during the past year! And…this year’s recipient is AMS teacher Maria Morel who made it her mission to clean up and beautify the AMS Courtyard. Maria was nominated by Tia Costello! Congratulations Maria and AMS!
Finally to round out the program in an unexpected way, Dr. Zadravec pulled out his guitar and sang a song he had written about a fellow teacher when she was retiring. It was wonderful and throughout the day people talked about what a “cool” way to begin the year.
