Back-to-School Night is a chance for families to connect with teachers and staff, learn more about the year ahead, and drop off school supplies before the first day.

We’re looking forward to an amazing school year filled with learning, laughter, and lots of new memories. Here are our classroom teachers for the 2026–2027 school year! ✨

Welcome, Ashley Chyma, the new School Counselor at Mitchell Elementary School! Ashley is passionate about supporting students, teachers, staff, and families by helping meet their social, emotional, mental health, and academic needs. She finds joy in being a safe and supportive presence for students, whether it's through a smile, a high five, or simply taking the time to listen. This school year, she's looking forward to meeting new students and building relationships with the Mitchell community.

When she's away from school, Ashley enjoys cheering on her boys at their sporting events, spending time outdoors, and getting lost in a good book. This summer was filled with slow mornings and quality time with her family. Someday, she hopes to take them on a trip to Europe. If you see Ashley with a drink in hand, it's likely an Americano or a Bubbl'r! Welcome to Ames CSD!

Welcome, Jenna Girard, the new 2nd Grade Teacher at Mitchell Elementary School! Jenna was inspired to become a teacher by the educators she looked up to growing up and the positive impact they had on their students. She hopes to create that same kind of safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment where every child feels encouraged to learn and grow. This school year, she's excited to meet her students, build meaningful relationships with them and her colleagues, and become part of the Mitchell community.

One of the highlights of Jenna's summer was a vacation to Maine. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys shopping, spending time with her family, playing with her cat, listening to music, and trying new recipes in the kitchen. If she's stopping for coffee, her go-to order is an iced vanilla latte. Welcome to Ames CSD!

Join Us for Popsicles with the Principal!

Kate Mitchell Elementary families, meet the principal at Popsicles with the Principal on the Playground!

Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: Kate Mitchell Elementary Playground

All Kate Mitchell students, families, and staff are invited to drop by, play, meet Mr. Weddle, and enjoy a cool treat. Popsicles will be provided!

Mrs. Fleming isn’t quite ready to say goodbye to some of her past students as they move on to middle school. Once they’re your students, they’re always your students 🧡🖤

The last day of school is Friday, May 29! 🎉 Students will be dismissed early at the following times:

Elementary – 12:45 pm
Ames Middle School – 1:45 pm
Ames High – 1:35 pm
