New Build — Classic Club Bike, Report #14
As of today, it's officially finished. That's not to say that I won't make a change or two before loading up and heading to Portland for MADE.
Today there's some outdoor photos of the bike. The orange/copper color really lights up in the sun.

The weather has been a beast recently — NOT good paint weather. That and a couple of other things took me out of the shop for several days. However, I am pleased to report that the bike is in primer and I've got the trim colors on.

All the braze ons are on. The fenders have been fitted. Now all it needs is a bit of cleanup/prep and it's ready for paint.

It's getting very close. I have to add a few more braze ons and get the fenders dry fitted. My goal is to have everything ready for the paint boot sometime next week. In the meantime, here's how things look —

New Build: Light Touring Bike w/ Rando Overtones — Report 13
John Parker finished he work on this project on Monday. I picked it up at his studio late Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, my mornings this week were filled with other duties and it was MUCH TOO hot to paint during the afternoons and evenings. I was finally able to sneak into the shop yesterday morning and get the final clear coats applied. It's probably going to need a bit of polishing, but for the most part, the "slow" reducer did its job.
Notes on the colors — I used House of Kolor paint on this. It's a Solar Gold Metallic base with a bit of a Gold Pearl added. The Kandy coats are straight Brandwine. The white HT and ST bands are Axalta (formerly Dupont) Imron, Starmist White. Parker used House of Kolor Pin Striping and Lettering Urethanes for the lining. The red is called Cardinal Red. The gold is their basic metallic gold pin striping urethane. It has a proper name, but I don't remember it.

Paint Project — Report #2
This one has been a long time coming. My last post on this project was December 7, 2025. If my memory serves me correctly, that post was after everything got back from being chrome plated — everything being racks, stem, head lugs, fork crown, fork blades and the rear triangle.
At this point (seriously, is it really July already?) it is finally finished.
I'm not doing the final assembly on this, so I won't be showing the frame with the fenders and racks installed. Hopefully, John at Tangent Cycles will send photos after he gets it assembled. I think it's going to be monumental!
BTW — there have been a couple of questions regarding the paint brand, color codes and my painting techniques.
PAINT USED — I used House of Kolor paint on this job.
PAINT CODE — I supp[ose it's remotely possible that there is an official HOK paint code for this color, but being as I modified both the base coats and the Kandy coats, I sort of doubt it. I started with a Lapis Blue Metallic base coat, but added a bit of one of HOK's Gold pearls to it. The Kandy coats were primarily Pagan Gold, but after doing a spray out on a test panel, I added a bit of Tangerine and Organic green to make the color more "olive". The upside of this method (or lack thereof) is nobody can say it doesn't match the swatch in the color book. The downside is I'd hard pressed to do an exact duplicate. Being as this is a custom bike and a custom paint job, that doesn't really bother me.
LUG MASKING TECHNIQUE — Most of the actual lug edges were masked with 3-M Fineline tape. The tape is applied and burnished into the edges of the lug with a special tool. I use an old toothbrush handle that's been carefully thinned and reshaped. Joe Bell uses the pocket clip potion off a Bic pen cap. After I get a section of the shoreline taped out, I go back in with an x-acto knife (and/or a single-edge razor blade) and cut the tape exactly on the shoreline. I find this process to be quite time-consuming. Although, Nobilette's super clean lug work made the job far easier than some other frames with chrome lugs that I could mention.
