From Ames to NYC: Celebrating Benjamin Harris!
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with our Ames community! Ames Middle School 7th grader, Benjamin Harris, is heading to New York City this summer for the NBA Math Hoops Global Championship!
Benjamin’s journey is a testament to his incredible dedication and gifted mathematical abilities. Over the past two school years, Benji has gone above and beyond—spending his homeroom and WIN (What I Need) timeframes stepping into the role of a leader and mentor. He used complex statistical analysis and fundamental arithmetic operations in addition to helping his peers learn NBA Math Hoops. His growth in the mathematical sciences has been tremendous!
This achievement also highlights the incredible power of community and mentorship. We want to acknowledge Ames High School Alumni Harrison Barnes and the Harrison and Brittany Barnes Foundation, whose partnership with Learn Fresh has provided vital support for our Ames student learners over the past two consecutive years. We also want to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Katrina Williams for recognizing Benji’s abilities in the mathematical sciences, creating a space for him to thrive, and introducing him to NBA Math Hoops.
Please join us in celebrating Benjamin's hard work, brilliance, and leadership. We wish him the absolute best of luck on his amazing trip to compete in New York!
Big congratulations to Ames Middle School current seventh grader Benjamin Harris, who has qualified for the 2026 NBA Math Hoops Global Championship in New York City during NBA Draft Week! 🏀➕📚
Benjamin will join students from around the world for an unforgettable experience focused on STEM, leadership, and basketball.
