The 2026 Mark Hagley Memorial Chili Cook Off was a great success. Fun and good food was had by all and we raised money to help our chapter continue to put on events and help serve the discipline of criminal justice and our community.

The 3-peat is in the books. Dr. Kyle “Chili King” Burgason has won his 3rd Mark Hagley Memorial chili cook off in a row and it is officially a dynasty.

Come and join the fun at our annual Mark Hagley Memorial Chili Cook Off next Wednesday February 25th from 11am - 2pm in East Hall 311. Can anyone dethrown 2-time defending champion Dr. Kyle “Chili King” Burgason?

Last month we held our annual fundraiser to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Story County Shop with a Cop event. We raised over $550 and helped the kids and officers wrap their gifts. We are truly blessed to be able to help such a great organization.

Our former chapter President and fundraising queen Dr. Jenn Beatty finished her journey at Iowa State and will be moving on to a tenure tracked professor position at Troy University.

The 2025 Mark Hagley Memorial Chili Cook Off is in the books. The Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice shutout the Department of Economics who didn’t receive a single vote.

The individual champion this year, as a suprise to none in the competitive chili relm, was Kyle “Chili King” Burgason. The champ can be seen below presenting the department award to Rachel from the Sociology and CJ Department, and posing with his own championship hardware.

Alpha Phi Sigma would like to thank everyone who donated time and stoped by to purchase a ticket and have some fun and fellowship with us, especially the Iowa State University Police Department who dropped off Ferret Bueller mascots and joined us for lunch.

Please join us for our annual Mark Hagley Memorial Chili Cook Off. Iowa State’s Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice won the team trophy by the slightest of margins last year over the Deparmtent of Economics.

There are even rumors that last years individual champion and perineal favorite Kyle “Chili King” Burgason will be signing autographs after last years dominating performance!

Last week we were honored to host a bake sale and were able to raise $600 for the Boys and Girls Club of Story County and we’re grateful for the support of all who donated including officers from ISU PD.

We also, helped wrap Christmas presents for the Shop with a Cop event.

Please join us in having a sweet treat to celebrate the end of the semester, the holiday season, and supporting the Boys and Girls Club.

Our 2023-2024 Alpha Phi Sigma Outstanding PEL Award was presented to chapter Treasurer Colin Larter today in an impromptu ceremony as neither him nor Dr. Burgason was able to attend the Department Award Ceremony the previous week.
