Welcoming new beginnings at Iowa State.
Assistant Professor Pete Evans and I had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. David Cook, 17th President of Iowa State University, and Dr. Katie Cook, First Lady of Iowa State University, to campus. It was energizing to hear Dr. Cook speak about industrial design.
We shared a small but meaningful gift: a LEGO set brought back by our student Brooke Wreay after completing her internship at LEGO.
Dr. Cook spoke about a colleague he knew at Kansas University, who began in automotive interiors and later transitioned into medical device innovation.
Looking forward to continued conversations about where design can lead next.

Our sophomores get to learn concept sketching and prototyping side by side. On Tuesdays they learn the basics of design sketching and on Thursdays they get to learn the prototyping tools by making things that they sketched on Tuesday.
It is an experiment that started last year and we are committed to keep making it better for our students.
After all, if the curriculum is not evolving continuously, it is actually holding the students back.
