Great news for COBAC! Our Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program is now ABET accredited!

This prestigious accreditation recognizes the quality of our IT program and the hard work of our faculty in preparing students with the skills and knowledge needed for today’s rapidly changing technology field. ABET’s review considers areas including curriculum, faculty, facilities, student learning, and institutional support.

We are incredibly proud of our Department of Computing faculty, students, and everyone who helped make this achievement possible!

Georgia Southwestern State University’s (GSW) Bachelor of Science in Information Technology has been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, a nonprofit, ISO 9001-certified quality assurance organization.

Our Business freshmen in UNIV 1000 recently met with Dr. Huey and Dr. Son to learn more about GSW’s Double Canes program!

The program gives high-achieving students the opportunity to work toward both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years or less. Eligible students can take up to 12 hours of graduate-level coursework during their undergraduate studies, saving both time and money while getting a head start on their graduate degree.

For COBAC students, Double Canes offers pathways toward a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or a Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS). Interested in learning more? Talk with your advisor or visit the Double Canes webpage for more information!

Emely Jimenez, Macy Taylor, and Milced Velasquez recently had the opportunity to present their business concept, FitFlow, to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia. The students were invited to present after being recognized as finalists and earning fourth place in the 2026 USG Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition.

The students had the opportunity to showcase FitFlow once again and join other top student innovators from across the state in sharing their creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills.

They were joined by Ms. Becca Jones and Dr. Gaynor Cheokas for this special experience. Congratulations to Emely, Macy, and Milced on continuing to represent GSW and COBAC on the statewide stage!

Soraya Partow, a Spring 2026 M.S. graduate in Computer Science, presented two papers at the 2026 IEEE International Conference on AI and Data Analytics (ICAD) in Boston. The research was part of her thesis work, completed under the guidance of Dr. Satyaki Nan.
Her first paper, “From Belief to Behavior: Modeling and Tracking Moral Alignment in Autonomous Agents,” examines how autonomous AI agents can be modeled and monitored so their decisions and actions remain aligned with moral and ethical expectations. Her second paper, “VAST-Blockchain: Hybrid Ledger Anchoring for Verifiable Governance and Auditability of Aligned AI,” presents a blockchain-based framework for creating transparent and verifiable records that support governance, accountability, and auditability in aligned AI systems.
Together, the papers contribute to the development of more trustworthy, accountable, and ethically aligned autonomous AI systems.
