The science of reading did not create the principles that Anna Gillingham utilized in her instruction—it validated them. In many ways, we can confidently say that Orton and Gillingham were among the earliest pioneers of what we now call evidence-based literacy instruction.

We love seeing the Academy grow! So far in 2026, we have welcomed 48 new Classroom Educators, 145 Associate Level Practitioners, 21 Clinical Level Practitioners, and 4 Academy Fellows. Congratulations to all of you! We are thankful for your time, effort, and dedication to the Orton-Gillingham Approach, and we are proud of your passion and commitment to providing individualized, diagnostic, and prescriptive instruction for all of your students!

Dr. Orton was remarkably ahead of his time. Long before brain imaging, cognitive science, and decades of literacy research, he recognized principles that are now supported by the Science of Reading.
