Hi there! Wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kelly Fox. We just completed our 10th year of homeschooling! Man, the time flew!! I have an enormous passion for making our homeschool community amazing, which is why I served on the board of PCHEA for 3 years, worked with student council, planned and chaperoned dances and other events….I just wanted to make sure our students had opportunities and experiences offered to them that they’d forever cherish!
Theater has been a big part of my life for over 20 years now, whether it be acting, directing, stage managing, lights or sound…I’ve done it all! For the last 4 years, I have been the middle school and high school drama teacher/director at a local homeschool co-op, which has been such a huge blessing! It is so much fun to watch these students blossom into confident young men and women!
Over the past few years, so many options have become available for our homeschool students and I absolutely love it!! But I noticed that we lack Drama!! (What?! That just won't do!) Sooooo….I wanted to offer drama and speech classes to the rest of our homeschool community as well!
Live Out Loud! was created to give our local homeschool students a safe wholesome environment to break out of their shells and find their voices through public speaking!
Here are a few things I want to share up front:
1. It takes so much courage to get on stage in front of others, especially as a kid / teen! Truly allowing oneself to let go and be fully committed to a part or a speech requires a safe atmosphere, and in order to foster that, I must have a zero-tolerance policy on bullying and making fun of others. That’s why I focus a great deal on students being trustworthy for one another.
2. While I am a Christian, most of the of the curriculum, plays, or material used in my classes will not be faith-based, as I don't feel it is my place to interject my beliefs in class. However, due to my faith, I am committed to not doing plays or skits with language, s*x, drugs, smoking, alcohol, or horror themes. The pieces I choose will most often be classics or adaptations of classics.
3.These classes are a perfect way to earn a high school fine arts or speech credit!
4. As of right now, I am not looking to compete in speech. My goal is to help students organize their ideas, find their voice and grow their confidence in public speaking!
