Today marks one of my favorite holidays of the year — Labor Day. It’s not only because we get a school day off… it’s because of the history and struggle that it took our grandparents and great grandparents (and generations before that) to achieve such a thing.

Through relentless organizing and dedication to the working class, the American people now have labor laws protecting workers rights including eight-hour work weeks, child labor laws, etc.

Therefore, we thank EVERY hard working Alvin HS Choir family member today. Every parent that wakes up and works for a living, THANK YOU. Every student that goes to school AND works a job (SO hard to manage), THANK YOU.

It doesn’t matter the type of job nor the amount of money it brings into your family. We value ALL work. My first job was a cashier at Taco Bell, and I loved that job — even though it was some of the hardest hours of work. It’s not easy being on your feet for 8+ hours straight. Therefore, honor your parents and loved ones today that are doing their best to keep food on the table and the lights on!

I’m passionate about Labor Day because we are all working class! This is OUR holiday to celebrate our contributes to our society! If you’re working today, I hope you’re getting paid time and a half! ❤️

We are SO excited to announce our NEW Alvin HS Choir Voice Teacher, MiaRose Hanberry!!!

Fun facts about Mrs. Hanberry:
• She has a Bachelors of Music degree from University of Houston and a Masters of Music degree from University of North Texas in Vocal Performance!
• She is a former 3-time Texas All-State Choir member!
• She has performed all over the world including in Australia, France, and Norway!

Voices lessons are offered once a week during your choir class, lunch period, or after school. Mrs. Hanberry will be a HUGE resource to voice students who truly want to go far in the All-State process, grow their vocal and sight-reading skills, and have one one one help with solo auditions!

Voice lessons are an additional cost and signing up for lessons are first come, first serve. Once our voice lesson spots are filled for the year, we will start a waitlist. Be sure to sign up in the STUDENT INFORMATION card that will be in an email from Ms. White! All students will need to fill that out BEFORE the start of school. Start checking your student emails now that the school year is starting back up!

Please help us by welcoming MRS. MIAROSE HANBERRY to the Alvin HS Choir Family!!!!!! 🤩🥳🤩🥳
