Check out some highlights from our recent trip to the Thunder STIR Annual Career Fair in OKC with our mass communication students and faculty! ⚡️Alongside valuable networking opportunities, our students engaged in workshops covering personal branding, resume building, and interview tips.

But it wasn't all work and no play! Our group also caught an exciting Oklahoma City Thunder versus Houston Rockets basketball game at the Paycom Center.🏀

✨Organized by the NWOSU Communication Department, the two-day trip also included a visit to High Five Media, an award-winning digital marketing and advertising agency in OKC.

During the tour guided by Jess Crist, we learned about their services and exciting new projects in AI. 🎯Earle Haggard, one of the partners, shared the agency's story and offered valuable advice to our seniors.

📣 The Communication Department of Northwestern Oklahoma State University had a booth at the Teeny Tiny Town Summit in partnership with Northwest Oklahoma Alliance. We showcased a range of exciting activities in journalism, broadcasting, strategic communication, and speech communication. 📷💻📲📰

👋 Our dedicated students team, led by Professor Jesse Schroeder, warmly welcomed visitors at our booth. As a special treat, we also held a drawing for one lucky visitor with an exclusive prize. 🎉

It's time for Northwestern News to celebrate! The newspaper won 28 awards, including 14 first-place awards, during the annual Oklahoma Collegiate Media Association conference, held at Oklahoma State University on April 13. The News garnered more awards than any other collegiate newspaper in the Diamond Division, which includes other small universities in Oklahoma.

Editor-in-Chief Jordan Green was named the Diamond Division Journalist of the Year for the second year in a row.

The News won first place in front page design and interior page design. Its enterprise and investigative reporting team won first place for their reporting on the university’s scholarship system. The investigative team includes Caitlin Hofen, a senior mass communication major who serves as the News’ feature and entertainment editor; Dylan Whitely, a December 2022 mass communication graduate; Joshua Hinton, Benjamin Kliewer, and Jara Reeder, mass communication seniors; and Austin Morton, a 2022 mass communication graduate.

Twelve students won first, second or third place awards for their work at the News.

How do tornadoes form? Besides visiting media companies in Oklahoma City, our Media Tour also offered an opportunity to explore scientific knowledge in an accessible and fun way. NWOSU students and faculty explored hands-on science experiences, art, and history in the Science Museum Oklahoma.

Our mass communication seniors visited media companies, television studios, newsrooms and PR agencies in Oklahoma. The Media Tour included a meeting with the Koch Comm PR and digital strategy experts and a presentation by INTEGRIS Health marketing team. During the three-day schedule, from March 30th to April 1st, NWOSU students and faculty took a guided tour of KWTV - NEWS 9, OETA, and The Oklahoman. A great opportunity to see how media companies work in real life and to network. On the last day, the group explored the Science Museum Oklahoma.

This Media Tour was made possible thanks to John and Margaret Barton Communication Lectureship for Academic Enrichment, for which we are grateful.
