One of our Western Oklahoma State College Rural Scholars, Sydney, an Agricultural Communications major, is conducting her summer research study to better understand how people in rural communities access and engage with local news.

Western recently took six members of the Collegiate Cattle Association to the State Capitol for the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association Collegiate Cowboys & Cowgirls Day.
Students had the opportunity to hear from a variety of informative speakers, including legislators, lobbyists, and interns, while gaining firsthand insight into the legislative process. They also sat in on both House and Senate sessions during their visit.

A special thank you to Senator Howard for recognizing our students from the Senate floor, and to Representative Kendrix for stepping out of session to visit with them. We’re proud to see our students representing Western at the Capitol!
