A snack all your guests can share and customize: Charcuterie.

Charcuterie [shahr-koo-tuh-ree] boards are collections of meats, cheeses, relishes, jams, crackers/bread and/or other food items. These boards are customizable, so they provide an opportunity to use ingredients you already have at home. For example, use up small amounts of leftover cheese and grilled meats to stretch your budget for protein sources. Include fruits and vegetables that are about to over ripen to reduce waste. Add crackers and bread to avoid leaving them in the pantry to stale.

We had an awesome day with the Likely Pine Burrs 4-H club teaching Jr jams and jellies and gifts from the kitchen. Can't wait for Jr. Pickling in the spring! Local apples provided by Betsy Ingraham. We made apple butter, dried and freeze dried apples, blackberry jam and cranberry conserve.

Let's settle a classic holiday dinner debate...Are you team "Sauce" or team "Jellied?" Which form of cranberries can be found on your holiday table?

Cranberries, like many other fruits, are a good source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is an antioxidant nutrient, meaning that it helps protect cells throughout our body from damage.

Indigenous tribes in North America recognized the benefits of cranberries as a valuable food source centuries ago. Many indigenous tribes made pemmican, which helped sustain them nutritionally throughout the year.

Just in time for deer hunting!

Most types of meat can be used to make jerky. Even if you don't use venison, beef round roast and pork loin are excellent options too.

(Note: Bear meat should not be used for home jerky because it must be cooked to an internal temperature of 185 degrees Fahrenheit for all parasites and disease-causing organisms to be killed.)

Jerky can be made using whole muscles or ground meats, though whole muscle is recommended for home processing because it makes a product that is safer and more traditional.
