One of the biggest advantages young athletes have today? ⚾ I look back and know there were things he could have done differently to get closer to his goal of playing professional baseball.

Not because he lacked talent.
Not because he lacked effort.
Because nobody showed him the roadmap.

Nobody told him:
✔️ What level of speed did he need
✔️ What physical development was required
✔️ What skills would separate him from the competition

Today, parents and players don't have to guess.
The right plan, the right guidance, and the right information can change everything.
Don't leave your child's future to chance.

Communication matters. ⚾
Some coaches proudly say:
"I don't talk to parents."
That's not a strength.

We're all on the same team:
✔️ Players
✔️ Parents
✔️ Coaches
The best coaches communicate clearly, honestly, and respectfully.

Problems grow in silence.
Trust grows through communication. When evaluating a coach, look for someone willing to have conversations—not avoid them.

Baseball is about much more than baseball. ⚾
The best coaches don't just teach swings, throwing mechanics, and game strategy.
They teach life.

✔️ How to handle adversity
✔️ How to overcome setbacks
✔️ How to be a great teammate
✔️ How to stay positive when things don't go your way

Because adversity is coming.
In sports.
In school.
In careers.
In life.

The players who learn to embrace challenges instead of running from them are the ones who thrive long after their playing days are over.
That's the real value of youth sports.

Baseball is important. ⚾ But developing young men is more important.
Before you choose a coach, ask yourself: Does this person have character?

Because coaches influence far more than:
Batting averages
Wins and losses
Playing time
They influence:

✔️ Attitude
✔️ Integrity
✔️ Work ethic
✔️ Character
Do a little homework.

Find out if this coach is building young men... or simply chasing trophies at any cost.
The right coach develops both the player and the person.

Choosing the right coach matters. ⚾ In travel baseball, you have a choice.
Too many families don't think carefully about coaching until they're already in a bad situation. Then what happens? Complaining.
Negativity. Quitting.
Those aren't great solutions.
Instead:
✔️ Do your homework beforehand
✔️ Choose wisely
✔️ Take the high road
✔️ Learn how to navigate challenges
Not every coach will be perfect, but quitting at the first sign of adversity isn't the answer either.
Find a coach who helps your son grow and love the game.

Keep your standards high when choosing a coach. ⚾
There's a big difference between a tough coach...
And a mean coach.
A coach can:
✔️ Hold players accountable
✔️ Push them to improve
✔️ Demand effort
Without:
❌ Yelling constantly
❌ Shaming players
❌ Taking the joy out of the game

Winning games is great.
But if a coach is stealing a child's love for baseball in the process, the cost is too high.
The best coaches challenge players while helping them love the game even more.

Every coach has a different style. ⚾ Some you'll like. Some you won't.
But the real question isn't:
**"Do I like this coach?" ****
It's: **"Is this coach helping my son get better?
In travel baseball, you often have the opportunity to choose your team and organization.
Choose wisely.
Look beyond personalities and focus on:
✔️ Player development
✔️ Teaching ability
✔️ Character
✔️ Long-term growth
The right coach can change a player's future.

One of the most important jobs of a coach? ⚾
Protect and grow a player's love for the game.
A great coach teaches.
A great coach corrects.
A great coach develops.
But a poor coach?
❌ Constantly yells
❌ Shames players
❌ Blames players
❌ Drains the joy from the game
Baseball is hard enough already.
The right coach challenges players while helping them love the journey.
As parents, we should be incredibly protective of anything that steals a child's love for the game.

Winning is great. ⚾ But winning alone shouldn't be the selling point.
I saw a team advertisement that basically said:
*"We're 28-1. We win tournaments. Come play for us."*
That sounds impressive...
But here's the better question: **How are the players developing?**

Because some coaches become so obsessed with winning that player development takes a back seat.

The best programs don't just produce wins.
They produce better athletes, better teammates, and better young men.
Don't get distracted by records. Look deeper.

Not every coach your child has will be great. ⚾ That’s just reality.
Now, if a coach is creating an unsafe or harmful environment, that’s different.
But sometimes it’s simply a coach you don’t love, don’t agree with, or don’t think is very good. Guess what? It’s a season, not a lifetime. Part of this journey is learning how to navigate imperfect situations, stay resilient, and keep developing anyway.
Sometimes growth happens despite the circumstances.
