🌟 Meet the Newest Member of Our Team! 🌟

We're excited to introduce the amazing staff members joining the School District of Altoona this year! Today, we're thrilled to welcome Nick Breed, who will be serving as a special education assistant.

Take a moment to get to know Nick:

"Hi, I’m Nick Breed. I’m looking forward to joining the staff at Altoona Middle School as a special education assistant. Most recently, I was a stay-at-home parent and substituted in the district. I also previously worked as a special education assistant outside of Altoona, and I’m excited to be in this role again.

My wife and I live in Altoona with our two children, who currently attend AES. As a family, we like to travel, play games, and spend time together. We love Altoona and our schools. Here’s to a great year!"

Students in the Marketing I class recently kicked off class with a fun bell-ringer activity connected to their class theme! 🦆

After everyone had a chance to put their creativity to work, the class voted on their favorite drawings. Congratulations to these two students whose duck drawings earned the most votes! 👏

🎉 K is for Kindergarten!

Our kindergartners are off to a fantastic start! They’ve been busy:

🛝 Learning and practicing playground expectations
🏠 Building a “mansion” while making new friendships
📖 Exploring books and getting comfortable in their new kindergarten classroom

So much learning, growing, playing, and making memories already! We’re excited to see where this year takes some of our youngest Rails! ❤️🖤

🤝🧩 Building community in 6th grade!

Mrs. Gordon’s 6th grade classes have been spending time learning how to work together, communicate effectively, and build connections with one another!

First, they took on a puzzle challenge, but there was a catch! They had to put their puzzles together without knowing what the finished picture should look like. Teams had to communicate, develop strategies, and work together to figure it out. They worked so hard!

Students also participated in a community-building tower challenge! Working in groups, they discovered things they all had in common and wrote them on index cards. Each card was then added to their group’s tower, with the goal of building the tallest tower! 🏗️

These activities gave our students the opportunity to make connections, discover what they have in common, and practice the communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills that will help make their classroom community stronger. 💪
