I still see so-called "experts" say the SIG P320 is a good carry gun.

These people need to seriously wake the heck up.

While the P320 does NOT go off uncommanded and it IS safe....it's a horrible pistol. It's even worse as a carry gun.

Why? Biggest reason: it has more felt recoil than any of its competitors. It will flip that muzzle, even with a solid thumb forward grip in most cases. That means the time splits between shots will be longer, meaning more time is needed to put rounds in meat.
Just because of that reason alone, the P320 cannot be considered a "good" carry gun or a "good" duty gun.
Is it reliable as the Army says it is? Well, according to the US Army, of which I am a member, there is a "Safety Of Use" message on the M17 (our version of the P320) that using the old standard ball ammo can result in the gun completely freezing up on you. Allow me to explain
The M17/18 was fielded with new ammo, the M1152 Jacketed Flat nose. This round has a little more pressure than standard NATO 9mm. Not exactly +P, just a little more. And this pistol just shreds brass. Every time we clean it, it looks like grains of sand all over it. But those are little brass shavings.
It tears up the brass so bad that if you use the old NATO standard ball ammo (Jacketed Round Nose/FMJ), there is a chance that the entire rim of the casing can be ripped off, left in the chamber.
When that happens, the pistol jams another round in it, and bam! Your pistol will fire, but the slide is jammed shut, frozen. I've seen it happen myself. We had to use a hammer to get it open.

So does that sound reliable to you?

If you get a copy of the M17, careful! Literally every M17 the IS Army fielded had to go in for repair because the rear sights were flying off. As in all of them were doing it consistently. I can explain why that happened to, if you like.

The ergonomics of the pistol suck, to put it lightly.

While the trigger is really light, the trigger reset isn't nearly as good as its competitors: G***k, VP9, Echelon, PDP, 507...

A good carry gun needs to be able to be fired absolutely fast and accurately. The P320 isn't that.

While I don't stress over the button vs paddle debate, John does bring up a valid argument. A paddle is better for civilian defensive use. It's small potatoes but not nothing either.

See where this instructor is? Issuing clear instructions, the women look somewhat prepared. This looks like it's a good class.
After a couple of shots, this instructor is paying attention and sees a student has malfunction. He gives timely advice...but it's the wrong advice. He is forced to assume what her problem was that caused the stovepipe. He was not in a position to view if she had a good grip or not. She didn't. He said she "let go of the gun" when she fired. But she never had a good grip to let go of.
Look at the base of her hands as she fires. They both should be touching each other on the grip of the pistol, tightly. But there is a gap. That will throw her rounds off, down and to the left just like jerking the trigger would even if she had perfect trigger control.
Now if you look at her fingers in the front, they are not right up against the pistol. Her support hand is not pulling the pistol back. That's a loose grip.
Had the instructor moved around the students before firing, he could have caught that before the stoppage happened.

Being a Detroit Lions fan, listening to other fans start saying our season is in trouble because of whatever reason....almost always their thinking is based solely on what our team did and didn't do. Never the other team. But when I listen to my boys talk football (who currently play) they talk about how the Lions play and how the other team plays. They take in the totality of the game.
These other people talk about football like they have never played (and most haven't).
We have to remember, the other team gets a say in how every play goes.

It's the same for defensive encounters: the bad guy has a vote in everything that happens.
My boys know to look at a football game because on their team, they break down the plays to learn from everything. Most fans just want to root for their team to win, their emotional investment is in just their team.
You, as a fi***rm owner, CANNOT afford to think like a fan on the sidelines. You have to train like the gladiator in the ring at all times. You will never know when your game starts, or if it will ever start. But unless you have trained for that game like a player does....your chances of winning go way, way down.

It isn't enough to train for a defensive encounter. You have to train for its aftermath, too.
If you think I mean getting insurance....no. 1, buying something isn't training and 2, you have a major blind spot.
You shot someone who attacked you. What do you do immediately?
Are they still a threat? If not, can you holster immediately? Are you injured? Secure the scene. Call for help.
These are things you need to train for.
