To follow up their recent classroom discussions on “fear of the unknown” and how writers use it to create suspense, students in Mrs. Booth’s Mystery & Suspense Lit class were able to experience a little of their own psychological fear today. Students blindly stuck their hands into various bowls and had to make their best guess at what it contained. This was a great way to show them that we aren’t “scared of the dark”, but instead, we are “scared of what MIGHT be IN the dark”.

Today, Mrs. Wilson's Mythology students participated in a speed-dating-style interview activity where students each took on the persona of a Greek god or goddess they've been researching and then shared information about "themselves" with partners in short, rotating intervals. Some students took it to the next level by dressing up and adding symbolic props. Some staff members took it even further (ahem - Mr. Blackwell aka Goddess Eileithryia).

To kickstart Composition II, Mrs. Booth had students putting together puzzles. What they didn’t know is that some of their pieces were in other groups’ boxes. Through communication and persuasion, they had to find all their pieces and be the first group to complete their puzzle.

Mrs. Wilson's Fiction Writing class, along with a few additional aspiring writers, had the privilege of traveling to Pitt State for the 2025 PSU Writer's Fest on Wednesday. Students were able to meet and workshop with several Kansas authors. It was a great experience for all who attended! And, no trip to Pitt would be cosidered complete without a stop at Freddy's on the way home. 😁

A little throwback to the classics in Mystery & Suspense Literature! 🕵🏼‍♀️ When Mrs. Booth found out many of her students hadn't played Clue, she knew that needed to change. Practicing critical thinking and deductive reasoning by figuring out who, with what, and where!

What a day! It was reward day for Mrs. Wilson's classes today. Students in every class have made tremendous strides in getting caught up on late & absentee work and have received multiple positive reports left from our substitutes this semester. It was a day full of Corner Store trips, card games on the front lawn, dodgeball, and kickball. Mrs. Wilson definitely got her steps in today, but enjoyed every minute with this great group of kids.

Mrs. Wilson's Dystopian Lit classes recently finished their pumpkin projects and the finished products were pretty amazing. After reading Neal Shusterman's novel, Unwind, students scoured their chapter notes to locate important quotes, themes, and symbols from the book, which they annotated throughout their time reading. Then they located pictures in magazines to represent those specific literary elements, painting and decoupaging their visions onto the pumpkins. Amazing work!

Earlier this week, Mrs. Wilson's True Crime & Dystopian Lit students generated LOTS of laughs playing the popular word game Ransom Notes in small groups. This was a fun way to celebrate their hard work these last few weeks. Beyond the laughs, games like this offer real academic benefits: students practice sentence structure and tone, experiment with language in a low-stakes setting, and work together to justify and negotiate their choices. It’s a playful reminder that words are powerful tools, both for creativity and communication.
