Saint Mark’s School is an independent, Episcopal school for students in preschool through grade 6. Specializing in early childhood and elementary education, Saint Mark’s intentionally pairs strong academics with social-emotional learning to help students thrive and grow into intelligent, well-rounded leaders. We believe that the social and emotional development of our students is equally important to their intellectual growth. This holistic approach to early childhood and elementary education allows a supportive space for preschoolers through sixth graders to engage in their learning. By intentionally educating the whole child, we focus and guide students toward academic excellence, encouraging an intellectual curiosity that will create lifelong learners. Our diverse community—from our faculty and staff to our highly engaged parents—models the confidence, resilience, and compassion that we strive to instill in our students who go on to become thoughtful leaders in their community and their world. Located in Altadena on a tree-filled campus, Saint Mark’s enrolls children as young as two years, nine months and offers extended care from 7 am to 6 pm for all students.

One of the things we love most about our Saint Mark’s community is the many cultures, traditions, and experiences our families bring with them.

Recently, Kindergarten families joined us in the classroom to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, sharing stories, Spanish culture and traditions, and, of course, some yummy churros! Last month, families also helped our students learn about and celebrate Rosh Hashanah.

We love having our parents as partners in creating a community where students learn from one another, celebrate what makes us unique, and Embrace All. 💛💙

What a week for our future leaders! Last week, we held our Student Leadership Council speeches and elections, and we could not be prouder of all of our candidates. Standing in front of the entire school, sharing your ideas, and delivering a speech takes preparation, confidence, and a whole lot of courage. Every student who stepped up should feel incredibly proud.

And a big congratulations to our newly elected 2026-27 SLC election winners! We know they will be remarkable leaders and wonderful representatives of our student body.

One year ago today, we were preparing to welcome the legendary Dr. Jane Goodall to Saint Mark’s. Sadly, that morning brought news we never expected.

In her memory, this tree was planted as a living reminder of her remarkable life and legacy. Through our continued partnership with TREEAMS, a program she founded, our students are carrying her work forward through hands on learning, environmental stewardship, and a deeper understanding of what it means to care for our world.

One year later, we remember the meeting that never got to happen, but are so grateful that the connection and her legacy continue to grow. 💚🌳

A pretty remarkable day of learning for our DK students! First up, Science! Our students headed outside for a nature walk, where they observed, explored, and discovered all the little details nature has offer.

Then it was off to Spanish with Sra. Espino, where our fifth graders performed Spanish skits for DK! It was a wonderful opportunity for our fifth graders to practice their language skills and share what they’ve been learning, while giving our DK students a fun glimpse of what’s ahead as they grow at Saint Mark’s.

These are the moments that make learning meaningful, memorable, and fun!

We had an amazing turnout for our Back to School Family Picnic, and it was so much fun seeing everyone together, catching up with friends, meeting new families, relaxing on the field, and simply enjoying the evening. It was the perfect way to kick off the school year and spend time together as a community. We’re pretty sure this one has officially become a new Saint Mark’s favorite! A big thank you to Emily Steenwyk and Shannon Wilson for planning this wonderful event!

Saint Mark’s will host a Community Town Hall on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Collaboratory, 540 W. Woodbury Road, in Altadena.

As Saint Mark’s School and Church continue moving forward with plans to rebuild our Altadena campus, community engagement remains an important part of the process. Over the coming weeks and months, there will be several opportunities for families, parishioners, neighbors, and members of the broader Altadena community to learn more about the proposed rebuild, ask questions, and participate in the public review process. We hope you’ll join us for this important event.
