Alta-Aurelia FCS and FCCLA

Alta-Aurelia FCCLA had a great State Conference in Cedar Rapids, IA the past 3 days! Students competed in both Iowa and STAR events, attended workshops, were recognized for their peer education projects, met new students from across the state, and had lots of fun!

A few highlights from our trip:
⭐️Addison and Jade were recognized for the top ”Career Connection” Peer Education project! Their hard work, along with Delilah, earned the chapter a $100 scholarship!
⭐️ Tegan and Emma made Iowa Corn Pancakes in the Pride of Iowa cooking event
⭐️ Breanna and Emma created a child development toy for their Iowa event, Toys that Teach
⭐️Nia made crepes for her Food Truck cooking challenge
⭐️Addison and Jade decorated a cake to match this year’s theme “Reach for the Stars”
⭐️ Kaylee modeled her $20 challenge outfit and recieved 2nd place in this competition!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kaylee also competed in the chapter’s first STAR event in the “Job Interview” category. We are extremely proud of her for her GOLD medal🥇and her opportunity to travel to Orlando, FL this July to compete at the National FCCLA Conference!

Alta-Aurelia was well represented by these students! Way to “Reach for the Stars”!🌟

Child Development class wrapped up the school year in the Alta Elementary Preschool classrooms! High school students brought activities that they made to play with the preschoolers during their center time! Thank you preschool teachers for this fun and educational opportunity!

Last week former student, SGT Liliana Solis, visited Basic and Advanced Food classes to share about her experience as a cook in the Army National Guard and what skills she used from taking food classes when she was in high school! Students were able to try a field meal and discuss proper nutrition and food safety and sanitation in the Army!

Child Development class applied their learnings about infants and toddlers through playing and observing kids at the daycare! It’s more fun learning about kids when you can actually interact with them! Thank you to the Aurelia Daycare for allowing our class to come into your facility today!

Last night we celebrated the 2023-2024 FCCLA year with a banquet! Congrats to our graduating seniors: Hannah, Dani, and Trista! We wish you the best in this next chapter of your life!

State FCCLA Leadership Conference:

4 students traveled with Mrs. Husman to Cedar Rapids on Sunday, March 17th through Tuesday, March 19th to compete and attend the state leadership conference! Students also attended workshops relating to family and consumer sciences and toured Kirkwood Community College!

Congrats to Emma and Kaylee for their first place finish in their cake decorating entry with the theme of “Childhood Cancer Awareness: Walk in their Shoes”.

Congrats to Ava and Rylie for their second place finish in the toys that teach category with their sensory bin.

All four girls were recognized for their peer education projects as well. Our own Ava was awarded a scholarship for our chapter as the top “Career Connection” peer education project! Way to go Warriors!
