Exploring SEEDS at our Sensory Science Center as part of our Fall Garden theme.

We’ve been talking about how scientists ask questions, make predictions, examine, compare, and record.
Some of our questions: Are all seeds the same color? Are all seeds the same size? Are they all round? What do seeds feel like? Do we eat seeds? What do seeds need to grow?

We made some predictions together and are now exploring, reading, examining, comparing, sorting to find our answers.

(Notice the great fine motor practice and pincer grasp getting those sunflower seeds out. I have some zip bags out so they can take the seeds home. We like to count how many seeds they are getting out as they put them in their bags. There is also so paper and markers so they can draw and record what they see.)

Exploring color mixing with fizz trays.🌈

Materials: Baking soda, vinegar, 2 colors of food coloring, droppers.

It was magic for the children to watch the colors mix and fizz. It also strengthens those fine motor writing muscles by using the droppers.

Exploring color mixing with our walking rainbow experiment at science center. 🌈🌈🌈🌈

Materials:
6 jars, food coloring, water, paper towels.

Only fill three jars with water. Add 1 color of food coloring to the three jars creating 1 red, 1 yellow, 1 blue. Circle the jars up with and empty jar in between. Add a folded paper towel from each colored jar to the empty jar on each side. Watch the colors mix and the rainbow grow.

We could see a difference in our rainbow just over night. These photos are after 1 week. You can really see how the primary colors mixed.

Exploring “watercolor snow” at the sensory table this week.

Set Up:
1) couple scoops of REAL snow from outside
2) watercolor kits - I like to use up some old kits that the colors are almost gone or are all mixed up and no one wants to use them anymore. They will use them up on the snow!
Easy, fun way for some sensory and fine motor practice.
