🚨 SCREWWORM UPDATE — June 22, 2026 🚨
USDA and TAHC have reported a new confirmed case of New World Screwworm in Crockett County (lamb). Additional cases have also been confirmed in Edwards County (calves).
As a result, the infested area now includes Crockett County, and the quarantine / monitoring zone now includes Schleicher County.
📌 CURRENT STATUS:
• 8 Texas counties with confirmed cases (see map)
• New confirmed county: Crockett County
• Quarantine / Monitoring zone expanded: Schleicher County
• Monitoring zone remains in place for surrounding counties shown on map
📌NO confirmed cases in:

• Coryell County
• Erath County
• Comanche County
• Mills County
• San Saba County
• Lampasas County
⚠️ Screwworm can affect all warm-blooded animals, including:
• Livestock
• Wildlife
• Companion animals (dogs, cats)
Remember these 3 words:

✅ The best defense is daily inspection and early detection.
🔎 Check your animals every day, especially around:
• Fresh wounds
• Eyes
• Ears
• Nose
• Mouth
• Tail / rear areas
• Newborn navels
• Branding, dehorning, or castration sites
Watch for:
⚠️ Maggots in wound
⚠️ Foul odor
⚠️ Bloody drainage
⚠️ Wound getting worse
⚠️ Excessive licking, rubbing, or behavior changes
Remember:
🟢 No maggots = Prevention
🔴 Maggots present = Treatment (Act Fast!)
