Day 2 of Rural Healthcare Camp was nothing short of amazing!

We started the day with a hike to the desk, giving our campers a chance to enjoy the outdoors while learning more about the unique challenges and opportunities of rural healthcare.

Our campers then had the opportunity to hear from representatives from UTEP - The University of Texas at El Paso who shared insights into the exciting field of speech pathology. We were also honored to welcome presenters from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine, who introduced students to life-saving medical interventions, including intubation techniques and emergency care strategies.

One of the highlights of the day was a hands-on suture lab led by Vickie Childress, RN, where campers were able to practice basic suturing skills and experience a small part of what healthcare professionals do every day.

Watching these students learn, ask questions, and engage with healthcare professionals has been inspiring. The future of healthcare is bright, and we are grateful to be part of their journey.

We can’t wait to see what Day 3 has in store! 💙

The Sul Ross State University Department of Nursing is proud to be a part of this unique opportunity to introduce campers to the many rewarding careers within healthcare.

Throughout the week, campers will learn from healthcare professionals, participate in hands-on activities, explore healthcare settings, and gain valuable insight into what it means to serve communities through healthcare, especially in rural areas where dedicated professionals are needed most.

We are excited to spend the week investing in these future healthcare leaders, sharing our passion for nursing and healthcare, and helping inspire the next generation of professionals who will make a difference in the lives of others.

Today, we celebrate more than a milestone but a calling.

The pinning ceremony is one of the most meaningful traditions in nursing. It symbolizes the transition from student to nurse, honoring the hard work, sacrifices, perseverance, and compassion that carried our graduating seniors to this moment.

Each pin represents countless hours of studying, clinical experiences, early mornings, late nights, tears, laughter, growth, and unwavering dedication to caring for others. It is not just a symbol of achievement, but a reminder of the responsibility, heart, and servant leadership that nursing requires.

We are incredibly proud of our graduating seniors and honored to watch them take this next step into the profession. The future of nursing is brighter because of each of you. ❤️🩺

Congratulations to the graduating class from the Sul Ross State University Department of Nursing your journey is just beginning, and we cannot wait to see the lives you will impact.

Happy Nurses Week from the Sul Ross State University Department of Nursing ❤️🩺

This week, we proudly celebrate our nurses. From those currently serving on the frontlines, to retired nurses whose dedication paved the way, to our incredible community partners who support and strengthen healthcare across our region we thank you for your compassion, sacrifice, leadership, and service.

We are especially proud of our graduating nursing students who are preparing to step into the profession and become the future of nursing. Your hard work, resilience, and servant hearts inspire us daily, and we cannot wait to see the impact you will make in the lives of others.

Nursing is more than a career, it is a calling rooted in compassion, courage, and service.

“To do what nobody else will do, in a way that nobody else can do, in spite of all we go through that is to be a nurse.”

Thank you to every nurse who continues to care, comfort, advocate, and lead. Your work changes lives every single day.
