This morning, Dr. Frank closed out the summer by hiking to The Desk with the guy who dragged it up there 45 years ago!! Jim Kitchens was a student at Sul Ross State University in 1981 when he decided his studies could use more scenery. Over the years, the desk has moved around and been replaced as the elements take their toll, but it remains a story, worthwhile hike, and the best view in Alpine. Thank you Jim!!

What is that smell…?🦨It’s our Wildlife Wednesday featuring the hooded skunk!

There are five different species of skunk found in Texas however the hooded skunk is the only one found in the Trans-pecos region.

As promised, this Wildlife Wednesday we’re covering the white-tailed deer! 🦌

The photograph we’ve provided of this species shows a deer which was tagged on both ears as a part of a research project!

Wow, y'all must really love stats... actually, we just love good science and doing our best to understand the natural world and how we can best manage it! Dr. French's classes are definitely for diving into the hardest parts of NRM - because that's where we piece it all together.

For day two of the Trans-Pecos Wildlife Conference, Dr. Frank and Dr. Cantú led a bird walk on Hancock Hill. We heard/saw 16 species of birds, but big bugs are easier to photograph! (Note - they’re not technically bugs. First a millipede, then a horse lubber). All the grass is green and happy from yesterday’s rain! And that view is 😍

This Wildlife Wednesday is all about the mule deer! As a well known game animal here in the Trans-pecos region it can be important knowing how to engage with this species!
