Career Transition Strategist for Faith-Driven and Silently Searching Professionals | Guiding Every Step with Clarity, Confidence, and Purpose | Speaker | Author

Losing a job can feel like an unexpected breakup in a personal relationship.

The emotions come fast, and if you’re not careful, your next move becomes reactive instead of intentional.

I’ve seen it happen to many professionals. They rush to apply for the first opportunity they see, update their LinkedIn without a clear direction, and move forward without a strategy.

Don’t be that professional and make that mistake. Instead, take a moment to pause so you can:

Get clarity in your next direction.
Position yourself well by updating your resume and LinkedIn the right way.
Move forward with a strategy by applying with intention, not urgency.

Your next opportunity deserves your best, not your reaction.

It’s hard to believe, but yesterday marked nine years that everything changed.

In the same month I was celebrating 20 years with an amazing company, it unexpectedly came to an end.

I was called into a meeting and informed that the company was making changes, reducing costs, and consolidating roles. I was not prepared. I did not have a plan. In that moment, I was trying to process what had just happened while figuring out what to do next.

If you are walking through a moment like this, pause and give yourself space to process it. Listen closely, you do not have to have all the answers immediately.

Shock, uncertainty, confusion, and even fear are real and valid, so it is okay to acknowledge what you are feeling.

Then begin to shift your focus forward. Think about the strengths you bring, the value you have consistently delivered, and where that value can create new opportunities.

For me, it was the end of one season and the beginning of another. What felt unexpected became a turning point that shaped everything that followed.

You may not see it clearly right now. However, this moment can and will lead to something meaningful and powerful.

If this season feels heavy and you are not sure where to start, you do not have to figure it out alone. I genuinely want to see people WIN, so feel free to reach out if a conversation would help.

Proud to share that Christian was inducted into the Collegiate 100 at Kennesaw State University, one of just 15 students selected.

The Collegiate 100 is the collegiate auxiliary of the 100 Black Men of America, focused on leadership, mentorship, community service, and professional development. It is a strong foundation for students who are committed to making an impact both on campus and beyond.

It has been great to see him step outside the classroom and athletics, build meaningful connections, and engage with organizations that are truly making a difference.

Excited to see his continued growth and the leader he is becoming.

Another Proud Dad Moment!

Recently, I had the opportunity to spend some time helping my sons strengthen their LinkedIn profiles. It was a great moment as a father to watch them begin building their professional networks and to see them thinking intentionally about their future careers.

Christian Johnson is a sophomore student-athlete at Kennesaw State University, where he is majoring in Finance.

Cameron Johnson is currently a sophomore at the of West Georgia and will transfer to Kennesaw State University this summer to pursue a degree in Construction Management.

They are both in the early stages of building their professional networks. If you are open to connecting on LinkedIn, they would truly appreciate the support.

They are also exploring summer internship opportunities in Accounting, Finance, and Construction Management. If you know of any opportunities, feel free to reach out or point them in the right direction.

Proud dad moment, excited for what’s ahead.

Most professionals do not lose opportunities because they are unqualified. They lose them because they are unprepared.

There is a quiet truth many professionals discover too late.

The job search is not won by the best resume or the strongest LinkedIn profile. It is won long before that, inside your confidence and clarity.

Over the past several years, I have coached hundreds of professionals through career transitions. Many were talented, capable, and ready for their next chapter, yet still felt overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure where to begin.

That is exactly why I created something new.

On January 28, I am hosting a free session called “The Confidence Breakthrough: The Clarity to Confidence Method for Professionals to Secure Their Next Role Without Job Search Anxiety.”

In this session, I will reveal why so many people feel stuck during their search and how a simple shift in clarity can open the door to confidence, direction, and new opportunities.

If you are navigating uncertainty or quietly preparing for a change, this will support you in a real way.

Networking is the key to success.

I learned that lesson early in my career, before LinkedIn, before smartphones, before email was common.

During my last semester in college, I was headed home from an interview with a layover in the Charlotte airport. I was on a pay phone, sharing details of the interview with my brother. A gentleman nearby overheard the conversation.

As I boarded the plane, he approached me and said he understood I was exploring career opportunities. He asked for my resume and offered to see if his company had openings.

Several weeks later, I received a handwritten letter from him. The message was simple and direct. 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀.

More than 30 years later, that message still holds true. My mentor and big brother was right. He didn’t just talk about networking. He lived it. And he still does.

Here’s what many professionals miss. Networking is not a reaction to uncertainty. It’s a long-term commitment to relationships.

The strongest opportunities often come from conversations you never planned. A brief exchange. A shared moment. A willingness to connect.

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.

Be intentional and network when things are good, so it doesn't feel uncomfortable when things are bad.

Schedule a meeting, virtual or by phone, with at least 3 - 5 people within the next 10 days.

Share below if you believe that networking is the key to unlocking opportunities and success.

This time of year, can be especially challenging for professionals navigating a job search.

Between uncertainty and the holidays, many people are carrying the weight quietly.

A message, call, or genuine check-in can mean so much right now.

Reach out to someone you know who’s searching.

Ask how they’re doing and let them know you care. Sometimes support starts with presence.
