Alpena Youth Sailing

We officially wrapped up our season this past Saturday with the Alpena Youth Sailing Team Yngling Regatta! It was a fantastic day on the water, followed by a great lunch together to celebrate. Seeing how much these kids have grown and improved over the summer was the real highlight of the year. Thank you to all the sailors, parents, and supporters who made this season so special

We had a wonderful week with our JY Racing class! Everyone did an incredible job improving their sailing skills throughout the week, and we hope they had a great time on the water. We can’t wait for next year!

We just wrapped up our 4th and final week of sailing camp for 2026! We had a wonderful time on Grand Lake and are so grateful for another amazing summer. We hope everyone had fun learning to sail. We can’t wait to see you all next year. Here are some photos from the morning class! ⛵️⛵️⛵️

The Alpena Youth Sailing Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit started in 2001 by a passionate group of local sailors who wanted to introduce youth and adults to the world of sailing.

Over the years, we've had hundreds of students participate in our program. Some have gone on to lead the way in collegiate sailing and international regattas, and most importantly, many have returned to help run the very program that fueled their love for the sport!

Our goals have been simple and consistent since day one: keep our program fun, accessible, and affordable so everyone can experience this unique opportunity on the water. AYSC has come a long way from its early days, and we want to keep seeing those smiling faces for many more years to come.

As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of our community and students. If AYSC has touched your life, or if you simply believe in giving local kids the chance to learn the ropes, every contribution goes directly toward boats, safety equipment, and keeping this sport accessible for the next generation of young sailors.

There is nothing quite like the peaceful feeling of the wind in your sails, but adding a little competitive spirit takes the fun to a whole new level!

If your student has completed our Learn to Sail programs and wants to expand their skills, sign them up for our upcoming racing clinics. We are hosting our Opti Racing Program on the Thunder Bay River the week of July 13th–17th. We are also offering the same course, alongside a JY 15 Racing Clinic, up on Grand Lake the week of July 20th–24th.

These classes are a wonderful way to learn the basics of sailboat racing. If you have any questions, please reach out! ⛵🏆
