Schools use seed saving as part of their school curriculum. Communities save seeds to share their heritage with others. Seed saving can be both a nostalgic practice as well as a practical one. Basic Principles of Pruning Woody Plants (Bulletin 949)….Pruning is one of the most important cultural practices for maintaining woody plants, including ornamental trees and shrubs, fruits and nuts. Crape Myrtle Culture (Circular 944)….Crape myrtle is one of the most useful flowering shrubs/trees grown in Georgia. It provides summer color with a minimum of maintenance. Crape myrtle is ideally suited for community plantings since it is long-lived, withstands droughts after becoming established, and is relatively free of disease and insect difficulties. Colors range from red and pink to lavender and white. In this publication, you will find information about planting, watering, light requirement, pruning, fertilizing, propagating, and diseases. A Produce Safety Alliance Grower Training is being hosted by Fort Valley State University on April 7-8, 2022. This two day training will include classroom and hands on learning activities.
The hands-on activities include:
• Cleaning and sanitizing: Understanding and how to implement basic cleaning and sanitizing steps.
• Building on-farm cold storage: Using a Coolbot.
• Water Sampling: Learn how to properly collect a water sample for testing.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Fruit and vegetable growers and others interested in learning about produce safety, the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Producer Safety Rule, Good Agriculture Practices (GAPS), and co-management of natural resources and food safety.

WHY: This PSA Grower Training Course satisfies the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in §112.22(c), which requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’
