Scots Venture.

Our Spring Term students explored Finland and Estonia through a mix of cultural and historical experiences. They celebrated Finland's May Day, visited historic sites in Helsinki and Tallinn, and learned about the architecture, history, and culture of both capitals.

As part of their study of circadian rhythms, students used Oura Rings to collect data throughout the trip while exploring Finland. They tracked metrics including sleep patterns, heart rate, daily steps, and activity levels during hikes, city walks, and visits to local saunas. The data they gathered was used to support their class research projects.

Scots Research.

Representing Alma College's endowed Dow eSTEM CORE program, the NSF-funded RESS program, and other federally supported programs, students presented posters and facilitated roundtable discussions to share the results of their summer research and reflect on their experiences.

From using GIS to better understand the Pine River watershed to studying the thermal preferences of two natricine snakes, they explored a wide range of research questions with real-world applications.

The iGEM program at Alma College gives students the opportunity to face real challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration, combining science, technology, and creativity to engineer solutions.

Their hands-on work earned international recognition with a Silver Medal at the iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris last fall.
