Last week Dr. Kramer taught the class and gave an infamous Kramer quiz which I’m sure many of you have memories of 😆📝

Today was the last day of class for the semester and students shared their final reflections during in class presentations. I could not help but be overwhelmed by to the point of being speechless about what it means to carry this trip into the future. So many lives have been changed because of this trip and I feel such a sense of privilege yet responsibility to make sure I do this right.

I’m so thankful my inaugural trip was so perfect and that these students and their families put their trust in me and came along for the ride.

To Steve Kramer for coming to class every session, Angi Johnson for never hesitating to come along, Paul Tidman for sharing his insights and Anne Taub for joining us for discussion - thank you! We could not have asked for a better host than Erasme and his family and church and we cannot wait to continue building our partnership.

Trip alumni - as I make plans to recruit in the fall for next year I’d love to be able to share the trip’s impact. Please comment or message with your takeaways and memories I can share

We’re headed into our travel day home and I could not be more grateful for the incredible students who took part this week or our amazing hosts in the Dominican. We experienced unconditional love and a sense of peace that doesn’t come from anything but an immersive experience like this. To know that we helped make the lives of others better while learning culture, history and empathy is nothing short of life changing. We left as friends and are coming back as family 💜🇩🇴

Today Dr. Steve Kramer talked with the class about his inspiration for starting this Mount Union experience nearly 40 years ago and offered encouraging words as we’ll be leaving at 3a.m. tomorrow.

I’m foever grateful to have been part of this trip and to now carry on his legacy. We’re all better because of his impact on this trip and the Mount Union community.

Only one more class session until we leave! ✈️🇩🇴

We’ve had the honor of having Steve Kramer join us weekly for class and last week Paul Tidman came to class too. Both have poured themselves into this trip and we cannot wait to carry on their legacy next week.

There hasn’t been an update on this page in years and I’m struggling to figure out where to begin.

This course, trip and the people I met along the way changed the trajectory of my life and opened my eyes to a career in non-profit work. It gave me memories with two of my lifelong friends that I’ll carry forever, it connected me to Steve and Mike and their wives who have been the best mentors, and it showed me what it means to truly serve others. And not because I served but because the families in El Salvador were so gracious and kind to us, the outsiders.

Now, 15 years later I’m following in the footsteps of Steve and later Paul and leading this course. There aren’t the right words to describe such a full circle moment and I’m not sure I’ll ever feel worthy of carrying on this legacy. Im honored to give this opportunity to more Raiders and cannot wait to watch them grow.

We’ve reached pre covid numbers for the trip and March 6-13 16 students, Angi Johnson and I will travel to the Dominican Republic. We’re spending our class time learning about major social issues and ways to make change while also completing a local service project and a fundraiser for the trip.

I cannot wait to share more updates about this year and the years to come and would welcome well wishes, advice to share with students and monetary contributions to support our trip.

💜
