The end of summer marks the beginning of a new journey for graduates of diocesan high schools, with the vast majority heading off to start college.

Now is a good time to look back at some key statistics that define the excellence of the Diocese of Allentown’s six Catholic high schools.

Here are the combined highlights for Allentown Central Catholic High School; Berks Catholic, Reading; Bethlehem Catholic High School; Marian Catholic High School, Tamaqua; Nativity BVM High School; and Notre Dame High School Easton:

Graduation rate: 98.7%
There were 667 students in the class of 2026, and 658 of them graduated successfully. The high school graduation rate in the Diocese’s Catholic high schools compares favorably to the statewide high school graduation rate of 89.1% for public and charter schools, as reported by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The combined graduation rate of 98.7% for the six high schools is calculated using the total number of students in the senior class and the total number of graduates. Rates for individual high schools were: Allentown Central Catholic, 98.7%; Berks Catholic, 100%; Bethlehem Catholic, 95.0%; Marian Catholic, 100%; Nativity B.V.M., 100%; and Notre Dame, 99.1%.

College-bound: 91%
A total of 534 graduates will attend a four-year college and another 65 are attending a two-year college. Of those not planning college, 12 are entering the military, 17 are attending a trade or technical school, and others are entering the workforce or taking a gap year.

$102 million in scholarships
College-bound students from diocesan high schools have earned a record $102,086,203 in college scholarships, showing their level of academic talent and the diligent support they received from teachers, counselors, and families. Some students received scholarship offers from multiple colleges and universities.

The Diocese of Allentown is pleased to announce that seven of its schools have been awarded a combined $450,055 in Targeted Safety Grant funding through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). The grants will be applied during the 2026–2027 school year to support critical improvements in physical security infrastructure, mental health resources, and schoolwide behavioral wellness initiatives.

The awards were made following a competitive statewide application process completed earlier this year, with schools across Pennsylvania competing for a share of $20.7 million in available state funding. The process was rigorous and time-sensitive, requiring schools to submit completed applications within just eight weeks of the program’s announcement — a significant undertaking that reflects the dedication of diocesan school administrators and staff.

Of the ten diocesan schools that applied, seven received awards — a 70 percent success rate. Funded schools and their awarded amounts include Nativity ($36,555), St. Ignatius Loyola Regional ($75,000), Bethlehem Catholic High School ($68,000), Berks Catholic ($75,000), Sacred Heart School ($67,500), St. Michael the Archangel ($75,000), and St. Ann School ($53,000). Five of the seven funded schools received their full requested amount, with individual grants ranging from $36,555 to $75,000, the maximum available under the program.

📣 Catholic education needs your voice — TODAY.

House Bill 2632 in Harrisburg would cut back and ultimately eliminate the EITC scholarship program — the lifeline that permitted the families of 4,248 students in the Diocese of Allentown – 49% of all students – and thousands more families across Pennsylvania to afford a Catholic education for their children during the past school year alone.

The Pennsylvania Catholic Conference warns HB 2632 would cut $102 million in funding, tie the program up in red tape, and could force some Catholic schools to close. The children hurt most would be those who need the help most.
