Praise our Wonderful Savior

The need has been …

PAID IN FULL

What a blessing to see God’s people …

“Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
(Galatians 6:2)

Please continue to PRAY for our Rachel — that God will continue the miracle into full recovery.

Thank you so much for your participation

The following is from my son in law …

IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM James Peterson:
“Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you TODAY.” In less than 24 hours, God saw fit to provide for our need through His people. The amount is FULLY COVERED. I just got off the phone with someone who will make up the balance once all the gifts have come in (already $50,000 online and many thousands more promised, sent, given offline yet to be tallied). We are overwhelmed, and so grateful for every one of you who prayed and gave financially to us for Rachel’s surgery. We still covet your prayers for a successful surgery January 18th, but we are in AWE that God made a way, where there was no way, for this surgery to take place. He is a God of miracles!!

My Daughter — Rachel’s journey:

In 2021 I started experiencing right heart failure symptoms and was hospitalized due to chest pain, exercise intolerance, a resting heart rate over 120 and had a right heart cath to rule out pulmonary hypertension. A CT scan showed pectus excavatum where my sternum and rib cage were putting compression on my heart and lungs causing these symptoms. I was put on metoprolol to keep the heart symptoms at bay and told I need surgery to lift things off my heart and fix the right heart compression.

I had a nuss procedure done by a covered surgeon in Nj where he put two bars in to try to lift things off my heart. The bars were in too high and not only didn’t relieve my heart symptoms they caused me constant pain with every breath and movement. As time went on nothing got better and it was clear I needed a second opinion. I saw a surgeon at cooper who dealt more with pediatrics and the UPenn. The UPenn surgeon told us there was only one surgeon he would recommend for my situation, said if it were his wife he would do whatever it takes to have this surgeon- (with my age, and the fact that my chest wall has already been destabilized) Dr. J (Jaroszewski) at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

We had to prepay $5000 and our flights for consultation. The Lord provided and made it clear that was the next step.

October 2022 we had our consult. Dr J said to get the current bars removed asap. She said where the compression is, other surgeons wouldn’t be comfortable putting a bar /plate and that’s probably why they were put in so high. She said I’ve done it and I know I can help and recommended we get on the redo surgery list (which is one redo a month and they were scheduling a year out).

We knew they didn’t take our insurance but read and were told we could apply for financial aid and payment plans. We also were asked by many how they could help and we said we’d let them know when we knew the amount and were on the schedule.

October 2023
As soon as we were finally scheduled for a January 18th surgery date and received the pricing we were told by financial counseling that since the thoracic department deemed it a unique case and because of our financial status it looked like it would be 100% covered by financial aid. However, the decision had to be reviewed by an outside board in Arizona. Whenever we checked in he said it looked good and like it would be covered, he was just waiting for the final result.

Jan 2, 2024 We found out they denied my financial aid saying they disagreed with the department that it’s a unique case. We were also told a full prepayment of $118,272.50 is needed prior to surgery by January 17th or we will have to go back on the waiting list. They also will not place me on a payment plan. There is no appeal process. This news is devastating after such a long wait.

Knowing my surgery is medically necessary, we strongly believe Dr. J is still the surgeon to redo this procedure. I am stable on metoprolol, however I easily tire and I can tell as soon as the medication wears off that my heart rate increases. My ekgs are abnormal and my cardiologist keeps saying the mechanical issue needs to be fixed. The long term heart ramifications are unknown but my desire is to be relieved of the heart compression, off medication and in the best health possible to serve God, my family and others.

We ask you to pray for us. Our desire is not to be a burden, and we are more than willing to go back on the waiting list and work towards full prepayment and wait again. God’s timing is always perfect. We’ve been extremely humbled when asked for a way others can help us shoulder this burden. We are thankful and overwhelmed.
