Upper Freehold Regional Schools

The Upper Freehold Regional School District is a PreK-12 district in Allentown, NJ. We are 100% comm

Operating as usual

Dear UFRSD Community,

This morning, we received news of a tragic accident. Last night, one of our Allentown High School students was killed in a car accident. We also know that another student from an area high school was also killed. There were three survivors of the accident, one of which was from AHS.

News like this is the worst type of news for anyone to hear. Today, we are thinking of the parents, siblings and family of all families involved. Any support we can offer our families, we will.

In the meantime, we know that this can be an enormous challenge for students to process and understand; at times, it's even hard for adults to comprehend a tragedy like this. Therefore, today and tomorrow, we are offering counseling services to students and staff. Today, we will have counselors available from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and tomorrow (Thursday) from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Allentown High School (go to the main entrance).

If anyone needs any special help and support, please reach out directly to Mrs. Embley at [email protected].

The UFRSD will do whatever we can to support our students, staff and the families involved in this accident. We will keep everyone updated as information becomes available.

My best,

Mark Guterl

Good Afternoon UFRSD Community!

First, and foremost, I appreciate you spreading the word about coaches. At this time, all high school coaches have been hired for the spring.

We still have one need within the district. Stone Bridge MS is looking for a head boys lacrosse coach. Practices begin March 23rd. If interested, please send email to Karen Farrell ([email protected]).

Thanks for your consideration or just spreading the word.

A lot is happening in the world today. When kids see people suffering or in need, they tend to want to reach out and help in some way; it is inherent in them. A few days ago, one of our Allentown High School students reached out to us to ask for our help with the refugee crisis happening in Ukraine. Parents are also very interested in helping! One of our parents reached out to us about a baby blanket drive happening locally. Blankets will be sent over to help keep babies warm during this time. Both ideas are easy for us to support.

1. 5Help (www.5help.org) is an organization started by students who live in our district. They have been highlighted on national news shows and received great press for the amazing things they have done in the past. In fact, 5Help has a gold star rating by Guidestar and work very hard to vet and make sure that 100% of their donations go to the intended recipient. The UFRSD is happy to work with them to help support the needs of Ukrainian refugees.

After meeting with 5Help, it was clear that the primary need is money. Lots of organizations are sending supplies, which is great, but the need for money to buy medical supplies (i.e. insulin) and money for other expensive essentials that are harder to ship is what is most needed right now. 5Help has created a direct link to their Ukrainian Humanitarian Aid drive at https://5help.networkforgood.com/projects/155219-5help-ukraine-humanitarian-aid. Additionally, on their website is a button to the fundraising drive and an Amazon wish list, if you don't want to donate money.

I am so proud of Heather and Drew for all of their efforts through 5Help. I believe that the UFRSD will step up to help this needed cause!

2. Blanket Drive - One of our parents, through a local church, is helping to collect baby blankets to be sent over to Ukraine. Next week, you can drop off a small blanket at any of our main offices. They will be collected on Friday, March 18th to be sent over. Please see the flyer below for more information.

Community Conversation #2: Continuing the Conversation: Tired of Talking about Healing? Let's start talking about healing. Wednesday - Feb. 2nd - 6:30 p.m. in the FitzPAC at AHS.

Good Evening UFRSD Community,

This afternoon, Governor Murphy reinstated a Public Health Emergency, effective immediately, and issued Executive Order 280 and Executive Order 281. Executive Order No. 280 declares a Public Health Emergency and continues the existing State of Emergency. Executive Order No. 281 continues Executive Orders Nos. 111, 112, and 207, and states that Executive Order Nos. 251, 252, 253, 264, and 271 (2021) shall remain in full force and effect.

The most relevant news regarding schools is that by extending Executive Order 251, the mask mandate will continue for all individuals inside of school buildings. Under the Emergency Health Powers Act, the Public Health Emergency will expire after 30 days, unless renewed. According to the Governor's office, State COVID-19 metrics will be re-evaluated at the time of expiration to determine if an extension will be needed.

This is not a recommendation or guidance, this executive order is a mandate. This order must be followed by all private and public schools in the state.

Please continue to stay tuned over the next week for new information regarding recent NJ DOH guidance for schools.

My Best,

Mark Guterl

Superintendent of Schools

All UFRSD Schools will be closed today, Friday, January 7, 2022. Roads continue to be covered and snow amounts have increased from 3-6 to 4-8 inches. Additionally, I have spoken to our OEM, who after speaking with local and County DPW, does not believe roads will be cleared by 9:00 a.m. We will be using our second built in snow day at all three UFRSD schools.

Stay safe, have your kids help you shovel and make sure they have fun too!

Good Morning!

I want to share this quick story...one that will make you smile.

There is never a shortage of inspiring and amazing moments in the UFRSD....BUT, I wanted to share with you one of those "take your breath away" moments. A few days ago, Mr. Nicklas (one of our AHS art teachers) was given a gift by his class that demonstrates how remarkable our AHS students are each and every day. Knowing that Mr. Nicklas is color blind, his class got together to buy him a pair of special glasses that allow him to see color. Wow. Remarkable stuff indeed.

I hope that when we think about the craziness that has been the last 21 months, we remember that positive relationships, kindness and compassion always win.

Hoping this email brings a little smile to your face and your heart.

My best,

Mark Guterl

Today/Tonight we honored the legacy of our former Superintendent, Dr. Fitzpatrick. With the dedication of Fitzpatrick Way in front of Stone Bridge MS and the Richard M. Fitzpatrick Performing Arts Center (The FitzPAC) at Allentown HS, we honor the impact of a man on this district for years to come.

Dear UFRSD Community,

I just wanted to share with you that our PTA has been given the Bright Future Award from the NJ state PTA. Congratulations! Thank you for all you do to support the UFRSD! #NextLevelRedbirds

My best,

Mark Guterl

Superintendent of Schools

[email protected]

Narrative of the Award:
When beginning the 2021 - 2022 school year, we certainly had high hopes for the potential that every one of our PTAs had after a tough year. You and your PTA have exceeded our expectations and gone above and beyond already. The New Jersey PTA created THE BRIGHT FUTURE MEMBERSHIP award this year to honor any PTA that met their 2021 - 2022 Membership goal and paid the accompanying Membership Dues to New Jersey PTA and National
PTA by January 31, 2022.

By October 31, your PTA did just that. You have taken full advantage of the tools and resources you have set up and regrew your PTA Membership…I can only imagine that this is only the beginning for you and your PTA.

Wishing those who celebrate a Happy Hanukkah!

Big congrats to the A&M Redbirds (future AHS Redbirds) who competed in the Pop Warner 10u championship game. Great season to all the coaches and players! Looking forward to some State Championship games in the future! #NextLevelRedbirds
