And just like that, the Winter 2026 semester, and the 2025-2026 academic year, comes to an end.

From two weeks ago to today, we just want to take a minute to say how incredibly impressed and proud we are of all of hard work that our psychology students put in this year.

Your time, effort, dedication, and your outstanding commitment to Grand Valley State University have made for a truly memorable and impactful year. Let's do it again next year, yes?

As for what's next, CONGRATULATIONS to all of our students that are graduating this weekend, including a handful of our front desk student assistants, teaching assistants, RAs, and graders. We are so excited to welcome you to the Alumni family. Let us know where your journey takes you next?

And, for those of you who are returning or joining us this fall, we hope that you all wonderful summer. Set sail with us again this August, here at . School starts on 8/31.

We had such a great time at last week’s 21st Annual Art & Science of Aging Conference in Grand Rapids!

This year’s theme was Aging Well Together: Innovation, Inclusion, and Impact.

The Annual Art & Science of Aging Conference seeks to build a collective understanding of how strength is demonstrated, cultivated, and celebrated in all phases of the aging experience—physical, social, emotional, mental, spiritual, and financial. It also features the power of older adult wisdom, resilience, and intergenerational ties.

Congratulations to our very own Dr. Mikhila Wildey on her publication: “Wired for Cognitive Jealousy? Unveiling the Stability Within and Fluctuations Between Relationships.”

On Friday, January 30th, the Psychology Department hosted a Dedication Ceremony for the recently remodeled Au Sable Psychology Laboratories.

The event featured speeches by the previous Unit Head Dr. Mary Bower-Russa, the CLAS Dean Dr. Donovan Anderson, the Provost Dr. Jennifer Drake, and Sara Bergakker from Tower Pinkster. Their speeches acknowledged all the individuals who helped make this remodel a reality and showcased how this warm and welcoming space sparked a new energy in the department and showcased how the department's faculty and students use this space to further their scholarship.

After a ribbon cutting, guests had the opportunity to tour the remodeled lab. Guests viewed the new designated waiting room for participants, the new conference rooms for lab and research meetings, the four computer labs for data collection, the large group room, and more!

Calling all Future !

Are you starting to think about your college major? Are you interested in planning a campus visit to GVSU?

If so, the Psychology Department is excited to announce that we will be partnering with GVSU Admissions office as they begin to roll out our new campus, Academic Spotlight Visit.

Designed with future undergraduate students in mind, Academic Spotlight Visit initiative invites all future Lakers to our vibrant campus to enjoy an admissions presentation, followed by a campus tour.

On Monday, February 9, from 2p-4p, join Dr. Glenn Valdez, of the Psychology Department, at Spotlight Visit: Psychology for an in-depth look at pursuing careers in psychology and behavioral sciences.

This visit takes place on our vibrant Allendale Campus and provides students with an introduction to psychology programs, faculty, and academic opportunities.

The visit begins with a 30-minute admissions overview, followed by a focused presentation on Psychology, including undergraduate degree options such as Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science pathways.

Students will learn about research opportunities, experiential learning, faculty mentorship, preparation for graduate and professional programs, and career pathways in areas such as mental health, counseling, research, and human services.

Guests then participate in a traditional guided tour of the Allendale Campus, offering a broader look at academic buildings, residence halls, dining, and student life to help students envision themselves as a Laker.

Ask any GVSU student or alumni why they became a Laker and they'll tell you about their love of our campus. Our state-of-the-art facilities, beautiful environment, and welcoming community stand out, but there's more to discover when you visit campus.
