West Michigan Teacher Collaborative

Ensuring all students get an excellent education by inspiring, developing and retaining the next generation of teachers.

An initiative of school districts throughout Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa Area ISDs in partnership with GVSU. The mission of West Michigan Teacher Collaborative is to ensure all students in Kent, Muskegon and Ottawa Area ISD’s have excellent teachers. We seek to be a model of high-quality educator preparation and development who reflect the rich diversity of our students. We believe great teachers can dramatically impact the lives of students, families and the communities they serve.

Meet the Future of Education in West Michigan!

We are excited to introduce West Michigan Teacher Collaborative Cohort 3 Residents!

These future educators are beginning their journey toward earning a graduate teaching certificate through Grand Valley State University while serving in schools across Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon counties.

Throughout the program, they will:
Gain hands-on classroom experience.
Complete graduate-level coursework.
Learn alongside experienced mentor teachers.
Prepare to make a lasting difference in the lives of students throughout West Michigan.

At WMTC, we know that strong schools begin with strong teachers. We are honored to support this outstanding group as they take the next step toward becoming the educators our communities need.

We are now accepting applications for our Residency program.

Have a bachelor's degree and want to teach in West Michigan? This program is for you! Our Residency program includes student teaching in a public school and a stipend of up to $20,000 along with waived tuition, books and fees for program participants.
