We're proud to have Jorge Bocarando Blanco's artwork on display in the main hallway. Jorge graduated last year, but he created this amazing collection of student portraits for us to exhibit. There are seven pieces total, including a special Allen ISD centerpiece. Jorge's self-portrait is featured second.

Students in the Allen High School commercial photography and audio-visual programs brought home several awards from the 2020 Association of Texas Photography Instructors Fall Contest. More than 4500 entries from around the world were submitted online in the fall and judged during the winter break by a panel of collegiate faculty photographers and filmmakers.

The Collin County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Appreciation Day Service Committee is pleased to share a scholarship opportunity for our Collin County high school seniors and Collin College students. The Carson M. Doss Legacy Scholarship Art Contest will award two scholarships in the amount of $1000 each to a Collin County high school senior (must attend a Collin County school) or Collin College student. The Museum of Whales You Will Never See: And Other Excursions to Iceland's Most Unusual Museums

Artist and writer Kendra Greene is a fixture at the Nasher Sculpture Center and Dallas Museum of Art where she often leads artist and writing workshops. Insights garnered from her museum experience enriched her with unique perspectives for delving into the intriguing and quirky landscape of Icelandic Museums. Iceland has a population of 356,000 and has 265 museums – nearly one for every 1,250 residents! Enjoy the journey that combines travel history, the mythic and the eccentric.

When asked what inspired her to pen this book, Kendra declared, “Nowhere in the world have I seen personal collections turn into museums so seamlessly, so frequently, or so brilliantly—and so many of them, so recently!—as on the superlative island of Iceland. And those museums have everything to do not just with how we hold on to some few precious things, but how part of our humanity is that we keep, make, or even invent those things because they keep close to those memories, those stories, we can’t live without.”

Now that so many of the world’s museums confront unprecedented challenges, it behooves us to take this quirky quest without obtaining a passport.

A Kendra Greene also teaches Creative Writing at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Connemara Conservancy

There’s a new sculpture in the Connemara Meadow Nature Preserve!

"Autumn Trees in the Meadow" was created by the Teachers' Group from the Sogetsu School of Ikebana Dallas Branch.

The Sogetsu Dallas Branch is an extension of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana based in Tokyo, Japan, founded by Sofu Teshigahara in 1927. It is a modern school of ikebana which can be enjoyed by anyone, anytime, anywhere, using any material.
Sogetsu artists are continually looking for new spaces to create innovative designs.

Come check it out! The Meadow is open to the public daily from dawn until dusk.
