Welcome to the team, Coach Lee Wiginton!
Lee Wiginton has been named the Head Coach of the Allen Eagles football program, Allen ISD announced on May 23. Coach Wiginton is currently the Head Coach of Midlothian Heritage High School and President of the Texas High School Coaches Association. He brings a total of 22 years of head coaching experience to Allen.
“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to join the Allen ISD community and lead the Allen Eagles football program,” Coach Wiginton said. “You can go just about anywhere in the nation and people will recognize the Allen Eagles name and the existing culture of excellence in academics and extracurriculars. I look forward to working closely with our coaches and administration to ensure our student-athletes have the tools necessary to find success during the school day, on gamedays, and in their personal lives.”
Coach Wiginton has led the Heritage program to a 61-19 record since its inception in 2016. Heritage has won four district championships, four area championships, and also advanced to the state quarterfinals in 2019. Prior to Heritage, he was the Head Football Coach and Campus Coordinator at Midlothian High School from 2010-2015, and he served as the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Mexia High School from 2008-2010. Coach Wiginton’s resume also includes head coaching experience at Comfort ISD and Bosqueville ISD. He has been named District Coach of the Year 10 times in his career.
“Throughout Texas, Coach Wiginton is known as a respected leader among his peers who coaches his teams with class and integrity,” said Kim Garner, Allen ISD Director of Athletics. “Coach Wiginton checked all the right boxes for Allen during the interview process: producing a solid plan of instilling a winning culture in every facet of the program, leading with innovation while also honoring Allen’s incredible traditions, and focusing on the importance of uniting our community by providing communication between players, coaches, parents, and stakeholders. We are very excited for the future of the Allen Eagles football program with Coach Wiginton at the helm.”
Coach Wiginton earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Angelo State University and his master’s degree in educational administration from Texas State University. He was the 2020 recipient of the Coaching Beyond the Game Award from the Texas High School Coaches Association for positively impacting his team, school, and community. His wife, Becky, is the Director of College/Career Readiness and Guidance in Midlothian ISD, and they have two children; Haydon is a sophomore at Texas Tech and on the football team, and Julia is entering her sophomore year in high school. Coach Wiginton plans to meet with players and the coaching staff later today, and he will officially join Allen ISD on June 3.
Head Coach Chad Morris announced today that he is stepping down. Allen ISD will begin a search for a new coach immediately.
Chad Morris announced today that he is stepping down as head football coach of the Allen Eagles. Coach Morris has an opportunity to return to college football.
“I am so thankful to Allen ISD for the chance to work with an amazing group of student-athletes and a dedicated coaching staff,” said Morris. “Allen is a top-notch school system that prioritizes students above all else. I want to thank Superintendent Dr. Robin Bullock, the Board of Trustees, Administration, and Athletic Director Kim Garner for their unwavering support over the past year.”
Morris joined the Allen Eagles football program in the Spring of 2021, and he led the team to an 11-3 record and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the UIL Texas Playoffs.
“I want to thank Coach Morris for the passion he brought to the Allen Eagles football program,” said Dr. Bullock. “Coach Morris has an amazing ability to connect with student-athletes on a personal level, and I wish him all the best in his return to college football.”
The Allen ISD Athletics Department will immediately begin searching for candidates to fill the head coach position.
“The chance to serve as a head coach in Allen is a premier opportunity throughout the state of Texas,” said Kim Garner. “Coach Morris did an outstanding job of leading the Allen football team this past year and pouring his heart and soul into our student-athletes and program. Now, our attention turns to finding a coach who will continue to build upon our winning tradition, instill a positive family culture, and inspire our young athletes to find success on the field and in the classroom.”

Your Allen Eagles will take on the Trinity Trojans on Saturday, Dec. 26 in the regional round of the UIL 6A D1 playoffs. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Tickets are on sale at https://www.mlb.com/rangers/ballpark/globe-life-park/events/football
