Does anyone know what difference between Web and Professional Communications is? My daughter and her friends are confused by these two.

Also, does Connections class mean LUNCH?

*A Note from Superintendent Robin Bullock*

Dear Allen ISD Parents and Staff,

I hope this note finds you and your family safe after this difficult weather we experienced. I wanted to update you and announce that our buildings are safe to open, and Allen ISD will resume all classes (both In-Person and At-Home) on Monday, February 22.

I want to extend my appreciation to the Allen ISD Operations Department for prepping our buildings before the storm and assessing for damage over the past few days. Thanks to their extraordinary work, we experienced only a few minor issues, many of which have already been repaired. I witnessed their hard work in frigid temperatures as our Maintenance Team worked on pipes and HVAC units and our Custodial Crews shoveled snow. If you know anyone on these teams, please take a moment to thank them for their incredible commitment over the past week.

Between COVID-19 and inclement weather, it has been a challenging year for all of us, to say the least. I want to thank our students, staff, families, and community members for their constant support and flexibility as we have navigated this school year. Throughout these challenges, the Allen ISD community has displayed a sense of resiliency that is inspiring. We are all Allen Eagles, and I am reminded daily that we are all in this together.

I can’t wait to see you back in class on Monday!

Sincerely,

Robin Bullock, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Allen ISD is closed Thursday, February 18, and Friday, February 19, 2021. All classes, including at-home virtual classes, are canceled. All afterschool activities and events, including Kids Club, are also canceled.

Based on current weather forecasts, Allen ISD plans to host both in-person and at-home classes beginning on Monday, February 22.

The Allen ISD Facilities Department continues to monitor all facilities and will assess any potential damage as the ice begins to thaw this weekend. If there is damage to a campus that does not allow for utilization of the building, we will communicate with those families and staff as soon as possible.

02/15/2021

Allen ISD campuses and offices will be closed Tuesday, February 16 and Wednesday, February 17, due to inclement weather and unsafe driving conditions throughout the area.

All classes, including at-home virtual classes, are canceled. All afterschool activities and events, including Kids Club, are also canceled.

Some of our parents may be wondering why Allen ISD is not moving to a virtual-learning model during this closure, and there are several factors that influenced the decision. First, Allen and surrounding communities are beginning to experience power outages and rolling blackouts due to increased demand on the power grid. This has also impacted our internal network servers and software systems. As these outages continue, we want our students, parents, and staff focused on keeping their families warm and safe as this inclement weather continues.

Allen ISD is attempting to do its part in reducing the load on the electric grid in our area. AISD has been in contact with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), and AISD has shut off non-essential systems and lowered the temperature in each campus and facility to help reduce the load on the electric grid.

Next, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) requires districts to provide a specific number of operational minutes in the academic school calendar, rather than a required number of school days. TEA also encourages school districts to adopt a calendar that includes additional operational minutes in the school year to account for unplanned school closure. Allen ISD intentionally built its 2020-2021 calendar and bell schedule to include extra minutes of instruction. This ensures that our students will obtain TEA’s required number of annual operational minutes even if the district is forced to close for several days due to extenuating circumstances.

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to monitor the weather conditions and consult with local emergency personnel.

Allen ISD campuses and offices are closed today, Thursday, February 11, due to inclement weather and unsafe driving conditions. All classes, including at-home virtual classes, are canceled today. Please continue to monitor the Allen ISD website and official social media pages for information and updates:

• Website: www.allenisd.org
• Facebook: www.facebook.com/allenisd
• Twitter: https://twitter.com/allen_isd

All afterschool activities and events, including Kids Club, are also canceled today.

February 15, 2021 is listed as a “Bad Weather Make-Up Day” on Allen ISD’s calendar. However, Allen ISD will not utilize this make-up day and will instead keep this day as a student holiday and staff professional development day. This decision was made due to the fact that our families may have already made plans for this three-day weekend, in addition to the possibility for inclement weather on Monday. At this time, it is not anticipated that AISD will make up this missed school day.

02/09/2021

Allen ISD is monitoring potential winter weather this week, we want our families to be aware of our Inclement Weather Procedures. If a decision is made to either delay or cancel school, Allen ISD will make every effort to inform our community by 5:30 a.m. Families will be notified in the following order and manner:

1) An email will go out through School Messenger to each family and staff member.
2) A posting will be made on our district website: www.allenisd.org
3) A posting will be made on our three official AISD social media channels: Facebook: www.facebook.com/allenisd; Instagram: @allen_isd; and Twitter: @Allen_ISD.
4) News stations will be contacted. As a note, AISD does not control whether external news stations choose to publish our information.

All decisions to either hold, cancel, or delay school will be foremost made with the safety of our students and staff in mind.
