So important...Earlier is not always better.

This is my most widely shared post. And rightly so, it’s an important one. These are “prewriting patterns”, with the average (not prescribed) age at which children are developmentally ready to achieve these patterns listed below them in years and months. Being able to process visual information and produce a movement in response (e.g. copying these prewriting patterns or letter formations), is known as “visual motor integration”. ⠀

Note that an X is not typically achieved until 4 years 11 months, and a triangle at 5 years 3 months. If a child can’t form these basic shapes...then they probably won’t be able to form letters. ⠀

It is quite concerning then that there are 3 year 7 month olds starting formal schooling, where they’re expected to write. Not only are their visual motor integration skills not developed enough, their hands are also physically under-developed. In addition, recognising letters, understanding phonics and beginning to read are all needed in order for a child to write meaningfully, skills which children starting kindy typically don’t have. We also know that when a child learns something that doesn’t hold meaning, it‘s unlikely to stick. ⠀

So if you have a 3-4 year old who spontaneously asks or attempts to write letters, that’s great; otherwise, there is no need to initiate or worry about this. Unfortunately there is a misconception, particularly with the way that the current curriculum stands, that earlier is better. Earlier is not always better.⠀

Each class will be asked to bring in a specific item to include in the boxes. Please plan to drop off your item between November 2-5th.

There will be two drop off locations which will be located at the front and back doors.

We sincerely appreciate your generosity and support with sharing the message of the Gospel and blessing children worldwide.

Art may seem like fun and games — and it is! — but you may not realize that your child is actually learning a lot through exploring the arts and doing art activities. Your children will gain useful life skills through art, so encourage them to get creative, and you will quickly see that your children are picking up these skills:

Stacking blocks is not only beneficial because it develops hand-eye coordination or social skills, but it is also beneficial because during block stacking toddlers begin to think like mathematicians.

Specifically, they learn the most basic concepts in geometry.
Through block building children explore complex concepts in geometry such as balance and symmetry.

Children compare like items and make important choices during block play. Think of the toddler who is tacking blocks, one at a time, but each block is off-set a bit and soon the tower is leaning slightly in one direction.

Continuing on this same path will cause the tower to fall over, which usually results in frustration, however through that cause and effect practice toddlers learn to make adjustments in their building as they continue to experiment.

They stop their play to problem solve.

Signs of Potty Training Readiness

Here are some helpful potty tips! How to tell when your toddler is ready to potty train, and how to help him tackle the toilet.

Starting Pretend Play

Pretend play, sometimes called symbolic play, imaginative play, dramatic play or good old make-believe, also introduces the concept that one thing can "be" another — a huge leap in your child's understanding.
After all, numbers and words are just squiggles and lines that stand in for math and language. And if something can be something else in a game of pretend, then your toddler can be...anything she wants!
Play is fun, of course, but it also teaches them courage and curiosity.

Kid Care Questions: What Food/Drink items do I bring?

1. Parents must provide a nutritional snack to be served at snack time.

2. Parents must provide a nutritional lunch and a drink to be served at lunch time.

(Please pack your child's snack and lunch in different
containers and label them accordingly. )

According to state guidelines, a child's lunch should include something from each of the four basic food groups.

All lunches must be ready to eat.

3. Every child needs to bring a spill proof water
bottle labeled with their first and last name. The Texas Department of Health and Human Services requires that water be offered during all snack, meals and after physical activities.

Keep in mind preschoolers easily choke on peanuts,
popcorn, uncut grapes, uncut hot dogs, pineapple chunks, and hard candy.

Please do not send soda or candy.

Putting puppets into the hands of children—or rather on the hands of children—can set the stage for valuable learning opportunities in many developmental areas.

Puppets are engaging toys that can help support oral language skills and communication, social/emotional development, and help children learn and understand the world around them through safe, imaginative play.
