I became both a BJCP judge and a Certified Cicerone® in 2008, and since then have focused on beer education and encouraging people to explore the Cicerone program. I have 20 years of experience working in the craft beer biz in a couple of different states, starting out in 1995 with bartending and managing a multi-tap beer bar, then transitioning to sales and distribution of high end imports and c

Barrel & Flow is an inclusive and welcoming beer festival that focuses on empowering the Black community by mobilizing the brewing industry. Through a one-day annual event as well as ongoing programming, the festival promotes the belief that collective work is greater than the sum of the individual parts – which is a deeply held belief for us here at BG too. Our differences make us stronger and are meant to be celebrated. It’s been an honor to participate since the inaugural event, and each year has been rewarding in its own way.

This year we’re working with C.B. Perry (Cue), an artist who currently lives in the Ohringer Building in Braddock. The recently renovated historic furniture store turned apartment building now serves as an artist-in-residence community and is located a few blocks from our tasting room and brewhouse.

We recently hosted Cue and Barrel & Flow founder Day Bracey in the brewhouse to discuss the recipe, share the process, and plan for the release party. We’ll share more details on the collaboration beer itself as we get closer to the release date.

Get ready for 'self-serve' beer and wine at Michigan restaurants thanks to new law 07/20/2022

This is (interesting) news. But at least it tracks consumption and doesn't allow one to over-consume.
There's going to be a lot of poorly poured beer out there. Foamy beer (which in this situation will mostly be to poor technique) will be blamed on the brewer. And the consumer will get charged for every drop of foam/wasted beer.

Get ready for 'self-serve' beer and wine at Michigan restaurants thanks to new law Thanks to a new law in Michigan, establishments with liquor licenses can provide self-serving dispensers for certain drinks.

What a week it's been at the Brewers Association Craft Brewer's Conference in Minneapolis!

I was both honoured and humbled to be amongst so many incredible people this week, and lifted and inspired by the warmth, camaraderie and wisdom of my fellow women-in-beer. (Too many to mention here, but that includes YOU Johanna Griest, Angie Williams, Fermenta: Michigan Women's Craft Collective, Bridget Gauntner Ashleigh Hayden, Barb-Hollywood Baker (You were there in the video!), Pink Boots Society, Jen Blair, Renee Navarro, Dr J and all at the BA, Julia Herz, and Melissa Cole and Mirella Amato (who I missed seeing, sadly.) And Ramon Tamayo, what a pleasure and honour to meet you!

A HUGE thank you to everyone's kind and congratulatory words on the Mentor of the Year award! And thanks to my co-presenter Ryan for input and support for our presentation!

And of course, it was great to represent Schoolcraft College Brewing and Distillation Technology, with fellow faculty Thomas Block, Angie Williams, Johanna Griest, Ken Belau and Fred Bueltmann (You were there in spirit Fred!)

Minneapolis was fun!
