Between festive themed days, a Polar Express themed STEM project, meeting the Yule Goat, celebrating the Winter Solstice, having a festive Gator Program, and celebrating Christmas by having a party and watching the Grinch and The Santa Clause 3, I would say that it was a GREAT way for us to head into Christmas Break! Enjoy your 2 weeks off, 5th Grade Gators! We’ll see you in 2025!

Merry Christmas! 🎄🔔🎅🏻🦌☃️❄️

This past Friday, we were honored to have Nora Barie-Wolf and Bob “Sarge” Wenzel from the Allegany American Legion come in to speak to both of our classes about what it was like in the military, their personal experiences, what the American Legion does for veterans, etc. We also wanted to honor the four veterans who help us out at ALES, Mrs. Kelly Reisman, Mr. Joseph Haskins, Mr. Matthew Wilder, and Officer Tyler Phillipi! Thank you all for your service to our country! 🇺🇸

Every year, each 5th Grade class picks a shield that represents our class. Together as a group, they have come to a consensus on a group name, what character, animal, or object they would like to represent the class as our “mascot,” class colors, and a motto.

I’d like to introduce to you the 2024-2025 class shield for Mr. Jones’s class! “The Brave Eagles” chose red, white, and blue as our class colors! 🦅🇺🇸

Huge thanks to the extremely talented, Mr. Miller, for creating these for our homerooms! They turned out AMAZING!!!

Today, we had some special guests come to our classrooms, as well as perform for us in the Gator Room! The REV Theatre taught us more about the life of Amelia Earhart! We learned quite a lot! ✈️

Last week, our STEM project focused on using specific items to make a vehicle! Now, the only rule that they had was that the car either had to fly, float on water, or do both! Everyone’s vehicle was successful!

Today we started our unit on Chemistry! We took our pennies that we brought in and dipped them in salt water, soapy water, vinegar, and salt and vinegar. We wanted to see which liquid would “clean” our pennies! Salt and vinegar was the winner! At the end, we put a bunch of the pennies into that liquid to let it sit for a day or two and clean! We will be using that liquid for our next experiment…stay tuned!
