Sometimes a book becomes more than an assignment.

Throughout the semester, our students engaged with ideas that challenged assumptions and offered new ways of understanding the world around us.

Here are a few of the books that resonated most with our graduate students!

A few moments from Commencement 2026 as we celebrate the people, memories, and journey of theer past two years 🎓✨

Before commencement, our second years came together to read and reflect on a letter written for this moment.

A reflection on uncertainty, growth, friendship, and everything that exists in between ending one chapter and beginning another.

To the Class of 2026.

On May 8th, our graduating students presented the thesis work they have been developing throughout the past year.

From q***r storytelling and social-emotional well-being to school culture, critical thinking, and inclusive education, each presentation reflected questions grounded in lived experience, dialogue, and human-centered inquiry.

An opportunity to reflect on the kinds of educational spaces and futures we hope to build 📖🌎

This time, we asked Taehyeong’s classmates to explain his research in 20 seconds and had him react and give the real answer.

Taehyeong’s work explores how school culture shapes parent-teacher relationships through a comparative case study of elementary schools in Korea and Japan, focusing on how communication and school environments influence connection between families and educators.

Still proving that explaining someone else’s thesis is harder than it looks 😅

How well do grad students actually understand each other’s thesis? 😅

For this series, we asked Marcos’ classmates to explain his research in 20 seconds and had him react and give the real answer.

Marcos’ work explores how q***r filmmakers navigate film schools and film festivals at a time when LGBTQ+ stories and representation continue to face censorship and political backlash around the world. Through interviews, document analysis, and observations, his research examines how mentorship, storytelling, and creative spaces can become forms of resistance, visibility, and community.

And suddenly, two years turn into 21 days.

Somewhere between the late nights and the everyday moments, everything changed.

Commencement season is here — celebrating our amazing Class of 2026 graduate students!

What does leadership have to do with movement and music? The answer is everything.

Dr. Ama Wray, Professor at the University of California, Irvine, joined us to introduce our grad students and the Soka community to the Embodiology practice by exploring how movement, breath, and rhythm shape the way we connect and lead.

A reminder that leadership isn’t just learned… it’s felt.
Thank you, , for the amazing opportunity ✨

The instructions were clear… the ex*****on, not so much 😅
Still, this is grad school at SUA: small cohorts, dialogue, and real-world impact.
