The Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Pi Chapter celebrated its 90th Birthday on Saturday, November 15 at the Alice Country Club. The event was a festive and joyous occasion, attended by chapter members, guests from local chapters, Delta Kappa Gamma officers, and local dignitaries.
Highlights of the celebration was the induction of two new members, marking a meaningful moment in the chapter’s ongoing legacy and awarding the First Year Educator Scholarship. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal, followed by the singing of “Happy Birthday” in honor of Beta Pi’s milestone Birthday.
Thank you to the celebration committee for making this celebration such a memorable event .

The Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Pi Chapter celebrated its 90th Birthday on Saturday, November 15 at the Alice Country Club. The event was a festive and joyous occasion, attended by chapter members, guests from local chapters, Delta Kappa Gamma officers, and local dignitaries.

Beta Pi Chapter, Alice Texas held their monthly meeting on October 11, 2025. Prior to the meeting, members participated in a meet-and-greet activity where they created beautiful bookmarks. A special thank-you goes to the Women in the Arts for sponsoring this creative project.
The opening inspiration, “A Feather of Memory” read by member Dora Rasmaei, was read to begin the meeting. The program, “Dare to Declutter,” was led by Adela Navarro, who shared a book titled “Dare to Declitter”along with many helpful ideas and suggestions on how to declutter effectively.
Program Chair Margaret Carbajal collected donated items as members continued to support the Jim Wells County Victim’s Department and Tri-County Children’s Book Project.
During the business portion of the meeting, President Mellie Smithwick and other officers presented reports that included information about Beta Pi’s upcoming 90th birthday celebration, December social, fundraisers, and new member induction plans.
The meeting concluded with a shared meal and warm fellowship among members.

The Beta Pi Chapter of Alice, Texas, held its first meeting of the year on Saturday, September 13. The morning was filled with warm greetings, welcoming new guests and members, sharing dreams, and participating in a creative dream catcher arts and crafts activity. Members also enjoyed a joyful “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” dance and a delicious luncheon.
Special guests included members from the Alice High School TAFE (Texas Association of Future Educators) organization, adding inspiration and energy to the event.

Beta Pi’s March Meeting was one of the best meetings ever!! For the first time ever in Beta Pi’s existence, we had as our guest Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Texas State Organization President Bonnie Moore and Area 5 Coordinator Sylvia Salinas and Texas State Organization Parliamentarian/Beta Pi President Mellie Smithwick preside over the induction of our new members Melba Gaitan, Irene Garcia, Lynette Rivadeneyra and Connie Rodriguez into our Beta Pi Chapter. The Induction Ceremony was beautiful and inspirational. It, also, gave a feeling of renewed commitment to all present. The meeting was informative and enlightening, and the ambiance was festive and joyful. The meal was delicious, and the entertainment fantastic!! Many thanks to the committees, hostesses, and leadership for an awesome meeting. The Women in the Arts Committee One and Done Activity was so much fun!! ♥️🌹

Beta Pi is built by a group of strong woman educators and it was empowering to have a group of women with unwavering determination at our October meeting🌹. The hostesses provided a delicious luncheon and the women in the arts committee engaged members in a creative pumpkin activity. Our two guest speakers, Dr. Alma Garcia with Alice ISD presented on the Coyote Cliset and local author. Belinda Sandoval -Alvarez shared her journey to becoming an author. In addition, our chapter member, Sylvia Trejo, who is also with the Tri-County retired teachers thanked members and the community for the generous donations of books that have been made.
