At Sprout Preschool Academy, our focus is to create a strong learning foundation for children ages 2-5 years old. Our curriculum provides developmental age-appropriate learning through play in an environment where they can explore and foster their creativity. Sprout Preschool Academy is located across the street from Alhambra High School.

Mystery science! Why do birds have beaks? Our Little Sprouts learned the relationship between the shape of different bird beaks and the food each bird eats. We experimented with long pointy beak like a warbler that are great for picking up seeds. And a wide, flat beak like a duck that are good for scooping. We discovered that different beaks are best for different kinds of food.

Our students are filled with wonder and amazement at the natural world around them. Over the past three weeks, our Little Sprouts observed caterpillars and the life cycle of butterflies. We watched as our caterpillars grew and shed their skin about five times before getting into position at the top of the cup to create their chrysalis. Our students were very careful not to jostle the cup. They enjoyed watching the chrysalis for signs that the butterfly is ready to emerge. Once the butterflies emerge they will take a few days to dry out their wings and gain some strength. We watched the monarch butterflies feed on sugar water and orange slices! We are ready to release the butterflies soon!

In celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America, Sprout Preschool planned a week of special events that include dress up days and a special visitor. To promote early language and literacy, Alhambra Librarian - Megan Wolf visited our school and shared fun songs and stories with our children.

Dr. Seuss is known for writing and illustrating children’s picture books. A few of our favorite Dr. Seuss books are The Lorax- where we explored environmental issues, The Cat in the Hat - students love the rhyme and imaginative creatures that Dr. Seuss shares in his stories, and Green Eggs and Ham.

Happy Valentine’s Day from our little lovebugs!

Love is in the air! Today, we enjoyed spending time together - exchanged Valentine cards and shared some Valentine sweet treats. Our students expressed an incredible amount of love, gratitude, and compassion beyond gift-giving!

In addition, we had so much fun with Librarian Megan Wolf from the Alhambra Civic Center Library for an outdoor Valentine's Day story time! We cheerfully sang, shared, and read books that celebrated friendship and kindness. Thank you Alhambra Civic Center Library !

Happy Groundhog Day! Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow? If so, legend says we’re in for six more weeks of winter. If not, legend says spring is on its way! Today, we made our predictions and explored with light and shadows while incorporating fun movement games.
